In Loving Memory of

William “Bill” Joseph Nattrass

1937 – 2016

William “Bill” Joseph Nattrass, age 79 years of Roblin, Manitoba, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at the Roblin District Health Centre.

Bill was born on February 14, 1937 in Treherne, Manitoba to John and Margaret (nee Gibbons) Nattrass.

Bill grew up on the Nattrass farm and went to school in Treherne.  He was involved in many championship teams on the baseball diamond, and he also carried the ball on a senior football team as the running back.  In the winter he played hockey and was eventually protected by the Toronto Maple Leafs to go play on the farm team with the Winnipeg Monarchs.

On May 2, 1959, Bill married Irene (nee Matthews) in Holland, Manitoba.  Bill and Irene resided in Brandon, Manitoba for three years where Bill worked for Perth Dry Cleaners.  Their sons, Terry and Scott were born in Brandon.

In 1962, the family moved back to Holland where Bill took employment with the Highway Department.  There they had two more children, Kirk and Kim.  Shortly after this, Bill was hired by Gulf Oil and was later transferred to Basswood, Manitoba and eventually to Roblin.  He worked with Gulf Oil for many years, before moving on to Manitoba Pool Elevators.

Bill had a love for golf, hunting, fishing, camping and horse racing.  Known as a prankster, being fun loving and for letting referees and umpires know what was going on in a game.  He coached many kid’s teams, which made him proud.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, John and Margaret (nee Gibbons) Nattrass, his mother and father in law, Arthur and Edna (nee Rutherford) Matthews and his brother in law Walter Matthews.

Bill is survived by his loving wife Irene Nattrass, his three sons; Terry Nattrass, Scott (Leann) Nattrass and Kirk (Melanie) Nattrass; his daughter Kimberley (Dwayne) Nattrass; twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; his brother Noel (Sandi) Nattrass; his twin sister Margaret Detimmerman, his aunt Anne Gibbons; his sister in law Shirley Matthews as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family and a host of friends.

Bill’s Funeral Service was held on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Nairn-Chyz Funeral Home in Roblin with Pastor Warren Ironstand officiating.  Jaret Nattrass delivered the eulogy.  The organist, Laurie Moffit and soloist Shanna Nemetchuk led the hymns “How Great Thou Art” and “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”.  Shanna also performed the solo “Let There be Peace on Earth”.

Following the service, a memorial reception was held at Nairn-Chyz Funeral Home.  An Interment Service will be held at a later date.
