In Loving Memory of

William Alfred “Bill” Evans

1949 - 2015

Our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, has destroyed death and brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel.  Let us remember with thanks what God has done through his servant, Bill Evans.

William Alfred “Bill” Evans, eldest son of Alfred and Mary (nee England) Evans was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on January 5th, 1949.  Bill was baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit in 1949.  He confessed his faith in the Rite of Confirmation in the Anglican faith in 1963.  He later was confirmed into the Lutheran Faith at Grace Lutheran Church, Zorra, Saskatchewan in 1975 where he was admitted to the altar to receive Christ’s life giving body and blood.  Bill was joined in marriage to Cathleen Diehl on May 13th, 1972.  They resided in and around Roblin.  Together they raised two sons; Bryce William and Kevin Murray Reginald .

Bill began working at Roblin Forest Products at the age of sixteen, after school, and continued to work there at various jobs, until becoming Foreman for the next 37 years.  Outside of work, Bill was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and as well as an active member of the Roblin Lions Club.  During the year 2013-2014, Bill was president of the club, and during his tenure he was the recipient of the BJ Ben Award.  Receiving this award made him very proud.

Bill loved nature and took pride in caring for his yard, He also stayed very busy gardening and golfing.  He enjoyed both activities, unfortunately only excelling at one!

Bill was predeceased by his father and mother, Alfred and Mary; his younger brother, Reg; his infant daughter, Vanessa; his father-in-law, Alvin Diehl; his mother-in-law, Donna Diehl and his brother-in-law, Murray.

He leaves to mourn his passing: his wife, Cathy; son Bryce (Wendy); son Kevin (Melissa) and his granddaughters, Isabelle, Shae and Kora; his sister-in-law, Sharon Evans and her children, Greg (Dawna) and their children, Jacob and Rebecca; James (Marj) and their children Cody and Jenna; Crystal (Kevin) Michalchuk and their children Tara and Mia; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Debbie (Ted) Andres; Karen Walsh and Cam Nemest; Arlene (Bob) Welcher; Jackie (Donald) Adams; Jody (Tim) Dreger as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Bill’s time with us was precious, yet not long enough.  He will be missed but now he is in paradise with Christ, our Lord.  On Monday, January 12th, 2015, God called Bill home to heaven.

The Lord gives and takes away.  Blessed be the name of the Lord.

Bill’s Funeral Service was held on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church in Zorra, Saskatchewan, officiated by Pastor Barry Wood.  A time of visitation for family and friends took place prior to the service.  The Organist, Mrs. Debbie Funk led the congregation in singing the hymns “Abide with Me”, “Amazing Grace” and “I’m But a Stranger Here”.  The St. Matthew’s Lutheran Quartet performed “Precious Lord, Take My Hand”.

The Casket Bearers were Craig Andres, Jeremy Andres, Greg Evans, James Evans, Evan Mostoway and Jason Nott.  Members of the Roblin District Lions Club formed an Honour Guard.

Immediately following the Funeral Service, the Grace Lutheran Church Ladies hosted a Memorial Reception at the Roblin ’50 and Over Club.

Bill will be laid to rest at Grace Lutheran Churchyard Cemetery in Zorra at a later date.

Those we love remain with us

 For love itself lives on,
And cherished memories never fade
Because a loved one's gone.
Those we love can never be
More than a thought apart,
Far as long as there is memory,
They'll live on in the heart.
