On Thursday January 19, 2023, Wayne Lawrence Kendel, age 84 years of Melville SK, passed away peacefully in his room surrounded by family in St Paul’s Lutheran personal care home.

Wayne was born June 24th, 1939, in Shellmouth MB. A son of Christian and Alvina (Nee Haberstock). He went to school in Shellmouth and left home at an early age to work and help his parents.

In 1962, Wayne met Lona Funk at Auntie Pat’s house. On November 7, 1963, Wayne and Lona were united in Marriage in Roblin. This union was blessed with three children, Cheryl, Kevin, and Wendy.

Until 1990, Wayne and Lona lived on a small farm just outside of Roblin where he enjoyed his garden, making hay and helping his children raise and train horses. He was always up for a bit of baseball and was the best pop fly hitter ever. He loved his pets and could always count on a few roaming the yard. Wayne cherished attending his grandchildren’s sporting activities from baseball to hockey all over Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

In his retirement from Roblin Forest Products Wayne kept himself busy with garage sales and having coffee at Roblin Motor Inn with friends and family and when he wasn’t there, he would be home watching his curling.

Wayne is predeceased by his loving wife Lona, his parents Chris Kendel and Alvina Kendel, brother Elmer Kendel and sisters Gail Halliday and Debbie Kendel.
