In Loving Memory of
Walter W. Arndt
1938 - 2014
Walter Arndt, age 75 years, passed suddenly at Roblin, Manitoba on January 11, 2014. God called Walter home to heaven.
Walter was the eldest son of Emil and Olga (Mohr) Arndt, born at Shevlin, Manitoba on December 24, 1938.
Walter was a very helpful, generous and caring man who touched the lives of many. He was a very loving and caring husband, father, grandpa and great grandpa and his family has many memories that they will treasure forever.
Walter attended school at Shell Vale School, Goose Lake Elementary School and finally Goose Lake High School. After completing his education, Walter farmed with his father until the summer of 1960. Walter then found employment with Conbridge Construction Company out of Roblin.
Walter married his love, Hazel Watson on October 22, 1960 and together they moved to Grand Rapids, Manitoba where he continued work with the construction company building a bridge across the Saskatchewan River.
Walter and Hazel moved during the winter of 1961 into the Cromarty District, where they lived until the spring of 1964. In 1964, they moved to a farm north east of Roblin. In 1965, Walter began work for C.C.I.L and was transferred to Dauphin, Manitoba. Walter and Hazel lived in Dauphin until July 1966, and then relocated to The Pas, Manitoba to manage a large cattle ranch. While in The Pas, their son Rodney James and daughter Lesley Louise arrived. During this time, Walter and Hazel developed a passion for breeding and showing St. Bernards which stayed present for many years in their life. In July of 1974, Walter, Hazel, Rodney and Lesley returned to the Roblin area to live on the family farm south west of Roblin. On January 12, 1986 Grandson Christopher arrived. Chris was everything to his Grandparents, memories were made that will last forever.
In Walter’s younger years he not only made his living farming, but enjoyed farming and spending many hours in the field. Walter and Hazel also raised dairy cows and horses.
Walter was very active within the community as well with organizations such as Roblin Agricultural Society, Keystone Pioneer Museum, 4-H Program, Roblin Cemetery and Parkway Cooperative Ltd. Walter also practiced his faith at St. Matthews Luthern Church.
Walter and Hazel were blessed with further additions to their family; Lesley wed Kelly in 1997 and they gained three grandchildren: Joanie, Janie and Kyle. Rodney wed Cathy in 2007 and they gained three more grandchildren: Roxanne, Lindsay and Ashley. Walter had many hobbies which he enjoyed, grand kids and great grandchildren included.
Walter was an avid bird watcher, he also enjoyed those pesky squirrels, he made sure to take care of the coons if they got in the way! Grandpa enjoyed woodworking as well, the grand kids all received a handmade cedar chest upon graduation.
Walter and Hazel always maintained a beautiful home, yard and plentiful garden. The door was always open to family and friends and a welcome place for family gatherings. Walter took pride in preparing the yard for the Arndt Family reunions.
Walter and Hazel were also keen on camping, a motor home then a fifth wheel camper with all the comforts. They enjoyed summer camping trips with the grand kids north to Bakers Narrows, Blue Lakes and Childs Lake. They also spent lots of time travelling to family events, visiting, sightseeing and simply enjoying retirement. There are endless photographs that highlight their travels.
Walter and Hazel enjoyed travelling to many Canadian destinations during his career with Federated Coop, and many cherished trips out west in the more recent years to visit the kids. Many memories were created and will be treasured forever. After Hazels passing, Walter continued to do the many hobbies he enjoyed. In the most recent years Walter had two precious girls to enjoy; great grandchildren Charley and Hanna enjoyed camping trips with Grandpa Walter to Blue Lakes and Clear Lake. Walter made many trips out west to visit his children Lesley and Kelly, Rodney and Cathy. Walter travelled to visit family and friends everywhere, no destination was too far. He had a travel companion, Ethel the GPS, he set out with directions and sometimes a bit of assistance but he always arrived on time. Walter always made sure to keep in touch with everyone. He spent countless hours visiting over the phone making sure to keep in touch with friends and family. One of his most treasured hobbies was spending time enjoying the company of his family and friends and making memories that they will all continue to enjoy.
Walter was predeceased by his wife; Hazel Arndt, his parents; Emil and Olga Arndt, his brother Paul Arndt and his brother in law Alex Suchar.
Walter leaves to mourn his passing and cherish fond memories: his son; Rodney Arndt wife Cathy, his daughter; Lesley Inkster husband Kelly, his grandchildren; Christopher Arndt, Joanie, Janie and Kyle Inkster, Roxanne DeMaere, Lindsay (Chad) Huseby, Ashley (Justin) Ruggiero. He will also be missed by his great grandchildren; Charley and Hanna Inkster, Jace and Kyden Huseby, Brooke Ruggiero. A Tribute From The Grandchildren
Today we say goodbye to our Grandfather Walter.
Your life has become a loving memory
I know you will never be far.
I know you are watching over me
As my life goes on
I will treasure the memories I have of you
I can't believe you're gone.
You were a loving caring Granddad
You were there for me a lot
You will always hold a place in my heart
A loving treasured spot.
You were really one in a million
A cut above the rest
All that knew you would agree
You simply were the best.
So Granddad I will say goodbye
I love and miss you with all my heart
But as long as I have my loving memories
We will never be too far apart.
