Vera Dillin Obituary

DILLIN, Vera Emily, Born April 1, 1927 to March 26, 2023, aged 95 years.
Vera Emily Dillin was born on April 1, 1927 in Russell, Manitoba to Samuel and Mary Sawyer of Foxwarren, Manitoba. She passed away peacefully after a short hospital stay surrounded by her family. Vera grew up on the family farm near Foxwarren.
They moved into the village of Foxwarren when Vera was 13. She shared many memories with the family about her childhood, some humorous, some of hardships, and some of life in the 1930s and 40s. After completing grade 11, she left to work as a switchboard operator in Gladstone, Manitoba at age 17. She was transferred to Rossburn and Selkirk where she was eventually transferred to Roblin as Head Operator. During the 1940s, many a person went directly into the telephone office to make phone calls. And thus, she met her future husband, Harold Dillin. They were united in marriage in Winnipeg, MB. in October of 1948.
Harold and Vera owned and operated a farm just south of Roblin. Both of their children were born in Roblin. Gayle was born in 1951 and Gary in 1954.
They farmed until Harold passed away in September of 2002. During those years, they also had multiple family pets that were very much a part of the family. She also worked once a week at the Roblin Auction Mart for many years under Willer and Williams and subsequently for Bill Welcher. Her yard and home were her pride and joy. She took much delight in her faithfully tended flower beds and immaculate lawn. Vera continued to live on the farm until 2015 when she moved to the Roblin Apartments Where she lived independently until her passing.
Vera was an avid sportswoman. During her early years she played baseball and hockey in Foxwarren. During her married years, she was a frequent participant in baseball, curling, golfing, cross country skiing, swimming, snowmobiling and horseback riding. She won many prizes and trophies over the years. She continued to golf until she was 89!!! She was a member of the executive for The Roblin Curling Club, Roblin Golf Club and an active member of the Royal Purple Lodge.
Another pastime of Vera's was her vast array of friends and acquaintances. Many good times were spent with them over a cup of tea, a long letter, a quick chat on the phone, or a weekly game of Bridge as well as a constant presence at the 50 and Over Club for an intense game of Whist.
Vera was predeceased by her Husband Harold, parents Samuel and Mary, brothers Robert (Dorothy) and James (Molly), sister-in-law Mavis Davis (Marvin), grandson
Rick Elder, Mike Mohr (Amber) In-laws Thomas and Murza Dillin and numerous nieces and nephews.
