Velma Watson Obituary

WATSON, Velma Mary Born October 26, 1926 – May 5, 2023, Aged 96 years.

Velma Mary Watson (Brazeau) was born October 26th, 1926 at the Misericordia Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Flora (Bell) and George Brazeau. Oldest of six sisters, Teresa, Marian, Laura, Joyce, Stella, Dorothy and Sandra.

Velma was educated at Grand Prairie School (Boggy Creek area) and St. Rose Convent. Her first job, at the age 16, was a Casket Builder in Winnipeg. She then went off to Hanover, Ontario, where she worked in the Food Services Department.

Velma met Robert (Bob) Watson in Hanover, Ontario. Velma and Bob were soon married. Unfortunately, on November 16, 1977, Robert passed away at the age of 57, leaving Velma a widow at the age of 51 years old.

Later, Velma moved to Edmonton, Alberta where she found employment at the University Hospital in Food Services until her retirement and moving home to Roblin at age 65.

Velma enjoyed dancing, entertaining, cooking, and baking. Velma also enjoyed travelling the world. She was very busy with the Roblin Ladies Auxiliary where they made many quilts and newborn baby hats, the Roblin Roman Catholic Sacred Heart Church, San Clara Roman Catholic Church, Roblin Personal Care Home and Roblin Hospital Foundation.

Velma always had a big smile and greeted everyone with a big hello. She had a great sense of humor and was known to tell some great jokes. You always knew when Velma was in the room because you heard her voice and laughter. If music was playing, she was sure to be up dancing gracefully across the dance floor.

Velma was predeceased by her husband Robert Watson; Parents George and Flora Brazeau, Sisters – Marian Laviolette, Teresa Langan, and Joyce LaRocque.

Left to mourn are her sisters Laura Scott, Stella Carriere, Dorothy Branconnier, and Sandra Isbach, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.
