Tony Kucherhan Obituary

KUCHERHAN, Anthony “Tony” John Born September 29, 1955 ~ March 12, 2026. Aged 70 years.

Anthony John Kucherhan, our 'Tony', was born on September 29, 1955 in Arborfield, SK to Harry and Stella Kucherhan. He was the fourth in a family of 6 children, having 3 older brothers and 2 younger sisters.  Tony was raised and went to school in Arborfield, where he was named athlete of the year in high school.  Upon finishing high school, Tony enrolled in a Co-op Sales and Management Course.

Tony's first job, after completing his course, was in Lintlaw, SK.  From there, he moved on to Dauphin. He got a job with BA Gulf, and then in 1977 he transferred to Roblin, where he made his home. When Petro Can (formerly BA Gulf) closed down in Roblin, Tony made a career change and went to Cargill Grain, where he eventually became manager.  Tony retired from Cargill Grain in 2010.

Many strong and lasting friendships were formed over the years in Roblin, where a good buddy dubbed him 'Kachino'.  There were many young people who moved to Roblin that year, one being Myrna Soloway.  Tony married his lifetime partner and love on October 23, 1982 in Benito, MB.  In 1986 they welcomed their first-born son Nathon and in 1990 their second son Logan was born.  Tony was extremely proud of his boys and their accomplishments.  He loved them and their partners, Corrie and Kristen, so very much. When his grandchildren came along there was no greater joy in his life than spending time with them.

Tony enjoyed sports and the outdoors.  He played football in high school.  As a young man, he was known as 'Shack' on the hockey ice and he was a pitcher on both the Roblin Tradesman and Roblin Hoods fastball teams.  He was an avid curler, winning many bonspiels in his day. He also enjoyed weekly Sunday golf matches with friends.

As mentioned, Tony also loved being outdoors and looked forward to northern fishing trips. Camping, fishing, boating, sledding and hunting were activities Tony enjoyed. Summer days were filled with yard work and taking care of his garden. He took pride in his crops of tomatoes and especially his garlic.

Tony was an active member of the Roblin Volunteer Fire Department for many years and made many close bonds in the fire fighting family.  He was also a part of the local Kinsmen before it dissolved. Tony was an active member of our local Legion and for the past several years was instrumental in the organization of the Remembrance Day ceremonies as part of Roblin Branch #24 Royal Canadian Legion.  For those of you who may not know, Tony was also the one who designed the logo for Roblin's Jewel of the Parkland Millennial Celebrations.

Tony and Myrna got the travel bug when his in-laws semi-retired.  They bought a blue chevy van and hit the road, touring Canada and parts of the U.S.  This summer travel carried over once they had the boys and as they got older, travel to hot destinations became a part of winter.  There was always fun to be had and places to explore, not only with the boys, but also with many of their friends.

Tony was a do-it-yourself handy man. There wasn't anything he wouldn't tackle from mechanics to carpentry, plumbing to household repairs.  Google was his go-to and if he couldn't find what he needed he'd figure out his own way to do things.

Our Tony had a quick wit, a mischievous yet charming demeanor, and a unique phrasing that we looked forward to and loved. He could easily strike up a conversation and made many friends.

Left to cherish Tony's memory are his loving wife of 43 years, Myrna, sons Nathon (Corrie) and Logan (Kristen), grandchildren Emma, Ben, Nolan and Jack, along with his siblings Bernie (Deb), Al (Judy), Marianne Lindsay (Earl), Millie LeGrand (Larry), sister-in-law Brenda Kucherhan, Mother-in-law Jennie Soloway, brothers-in-law Ron (Lori) and David, as well as many nieces, nephews and close friends.

Tony was pre-deceased by his father and mother, Harry and Stella Kucherhan, his brother Steve, sister-in-law Pat and father-in-law Walter Soloway.
