In Loving Memory of

Shirley Radwanski

February 21, 1941 - July 29, 2015

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and Baba, Shirley, on the 29th of July 2015.

She was born in Roblin, Manitoba, to Andrew and Anna (nee Ewusiak) Styba. Shirley married Stan Radwanski on the 3rd of August, 1959. They farmed together in Ituna, Saskatchewan for three years until Stan was offered a teaching job at Hillcrest. During the next few years, they purchased and operated Hillside Store and eventually moved to Roblin in 1969. Roblin was the community that they would make their home.

Cherished siblings include her sisters Eva Bissonette, Love Bugera, Mary (Ross) Hurley, brother Larry (Marilyn) Styba and sisters in law Wilna Styba, Liz Styba and Annie Styba. She was predeceased by her mother Anna and her father Andrew; sisters Theresa Styba, Betty Yakimishyn, Emily Mysko; brothers Mike Styba, Peter Styba, Mervin Styba and Matt Styba.

Shirley always put others first, whether visiting the ill, or feeding family and friends. She was involved in providing Meals on Wheels and was a faithful member of the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church and Ladies Auxiliary. Many friends and family that visited her, and helped her family, while she was in Grandview hospital have paid Shirley’s generous heart back in full.

Shirley loved to garden, proudly displaying her impeccable flowers in her yard which was worthy of a spread in a “Home and Garden” magazine.

Shirley was an artist in every sense of the word, a very talented painter, beautiful creations with long stitch, crochet, and she even designed the home that they lived in. Shirley enjoyed learning, reading, laughing and playing cards.

Shirley loved to cook and provide for those she loved. “Eat, eat… was a term that was often heard. You would be served a full course meal and two hours later, out would come the sausage and cheese. And those perogies…. Shirley handcrafted tens of thousands of perogies over the years for various functions!

She also enjoyed singing and was a lead singer in the “Pickling Spice Girls” band, who excelled at natural sister harmonizing.

Shirley was a strong leader in the church choir, often taking the Christmas Eve solo with a touching rendition of “The Friendly Beast”.

Shirley will be dearly missed by her husband Stan, daughter Sharon, son in law Neil, son Tim, daughter in law Jill and beloved granddaughter Mia, as well as numerous friends and family.

She left us too soon, but with so much love in our hearts.

A Prayer Vigil Service was held on Monday, August 3, 2015 at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Nairn-Chyz Funeral Home in Roblin, with Rev. Father Paul Bisson officiating.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at 10:00 AM at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Roblin, also with Rev. Father Paul Bisson officiating, assisted by the Altar Server, Dwayne Pastuck.

The Roblin Knights of Columbus led the Rosary prior to the Mass.  Shirley’s Eulogy was read by Ron Yakimishyn, and the Readers for the Mass were Anita Anderson and Joan Chase.   Dale Yeo led the Responsorial Psalm.  Stan Ostafie and the Sacred Heart Choir led the congregational hymns; “Let There Be Peace on Earth”, “Song of the Body of Christ”, “I am the Bread of Life” and “How Great Thou Art”.  The Roblin and District Health Care Auxiliary formed an Honour Guard for Shirley and her family at the end of the service.

Shirley was carried to her final resting place in Roblin Catholic Cemetery by the Casket Bearers; Peter Mysko, Barry Bugera, Terrence Styba, Dallas Skayman, Wayne Radwanski and Brent White.

Following the Interment Prayers, a memorial reception was held in the lower auditorium of Sacred Heart Church, hosted by the Sacred Heart CWL.

Due to the amazing care Shirley received, her family has requested that memorial gifts to honour her life be made to the Grandview District Hospital Palliative Care Fund, c/o Grandview District Hospital, Box 399, Grandview, Manitoba, R0L 0Y0.
