Sadie Buskell, age 89 years of Winnipeg, Manitobe, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at the Deer Lodge Centre in Winnipeg.
Sadie Holunga was born October 24, 1924 in the MacNutt District on Sec 11–24–1, W1, Saskatchewan. She was the fourth of eleven children born to Nester and Elsie (nee Savliuk) Holunga.
Sadie worked as a waitress at numerous restaurants.
She a partner of Alec McDougall for a number of years and two sons; Barry and Larry, were born to this union. She also raised a step-son Garry. After Alec passed away Sadie married Roy Buskell in 1978 at Roblin, Manitoba.
Sadie was a lover of flowers and gardens and spent a lot of time outdoors. She shared her tomatoes and flowers with her neighbors. One of her favorite dishes was cabbage rolls, which were very delicious. She even mailed them to her sisters, as well as sharing with neighbors.
Sadie overcame many heartaches and sorrow while on earth and God was good to her during difficult times.
Sadie and Roy moved from Winnipeg to Roblin and resided at Roblin Residence for a few months before moving back to Winnipeg in the fall of 2010 when they moved into Deer Lodge Centre.
Sadie was predeceased by her parents; Nestor and Elsie Holunga, the father of her sons; Alec McDougall, her two sons; Barry and Larry McDougall her step-son; Garry McDougall, her husband Roy Buskell, her sisters; Maggie (Axcel) Nylander, Nettie (Nick) Horatchka, Vera (Ralph) Nylander, Dora Hyshka, Georgina (Steve) Huta, and Sylvia Hyska, her sister-in-law; Jean Holunga, and her brothers-in-law; Bob Taylor and George Kostiuk.
Surviving to mourn Sadie’s death and cherish fond memories are; her brother Michael Holunga of Roblin, Mary Taylor of Victoria, B.C, Carrie (Bill) Robbins of Winnipeg, Lena (Wally) Hubscher of Swan River, Mamotpba, brother-in-law, Stan Hyshka of Roblin, as well as thirty-three nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.
Sadie’s Funeral Service was held on Monday, August 11, 2014 at 10:00 AM from the Chapel of Nairn-Chyz Funeral Home in Roblin, with Rev. Fr. Orest Olekshy officiating, assisted by the Cantors, Rev. Deacon Ken Gaber and Mr, Rod Flunder. Sadie’s nephew, Mr. Don Buhler delivered the Eulogy.
Following the Funeral Service, a memorial luncheon was served at the Chapel.
The Interment followed at St. John The Baptist Orthodox Cemetery at Shell Valley, Manitoba, and the Casket Bearers were Don Buhler, Carson Cockerill, Chester Cockerill, Walter Horatchka, Darren Hubscher, Dyllon Hubscher, Rosylen Kitz, and Edward Kostiuk.
