In Loving Memory of
Rose Vivian Bahniuk
1924 - 2012
Rose Vivian Bahniuk, at the age of 88 years, passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at the Yorkton Regional Health Center in Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
Rose was born to Tony and Nellie (nee Pura) Kopec on June 3, 1924 in Buchanan, Saskatchewan. She attended school in Buchanan and helped out on the family farm taking care of her siblings, doing household chores, working with the livestock and working in the fields.
In 1942, Rose met her future husband, Paul, who was hired to help on the farm. They married in November of 1943 and went to live with Paul’s grandmother and then moved to the Amsterdam, Saskatchewan area. They spent some time in Vancouver, B.C, but moved back to the Amsterdam area after a few years. In 1963, they bought a farm west of Roblin. Sadly, in 1983 Rose became a widow. Rose remained on the farm until 1993. After selling the farm, she bought a house in Roblin. During the last 19 years, she spent much of her time doing the things she enjoyed. She took pride in her garden. Everything that was grown was canned, frozen or stored for use over the winter months. She spent the long winter days sewing, knitting and crocheting for herself and her children and grandchildren. Rose attended the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Roblin. In her earlier years, not only was she a member of the church, but she took pride in helping to keep it clean and spotless. Rose lived independently and remained in her house until the last few weeks of her life.
Rose will be dearly missed by her children, Florence Bahniuk of Brandon, Manitoba, Alexandra Bahniuk of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Stan (Wanda) Bahniuk of Calgary, Alberta, Marcella Bahniuk of Roblin, Dan Bahniuk (Val Morris) of St. Albert, Alberta and Brian Bahniuk (Arvelle Elder) of Roblin; her grandchildren Jon Bahnuik (Candice Ross) of Calgary, Angela (Paul) Driscoll of Calgary, Alison Bahniuk of Winnipeg, Matthew Bahniuk of Cochrane, Alberta, Taryn Bahniuk of Cochrane, Nicole Bahniuk of Edmonton, Alberta, Paige Elder of Roblin, Carson Elder of Roblin, Daylynn Bahniuk of Roblin, and Rayleigh Bahniuk of Roblin; her great-grandchildren Sofia and Elyse Driscoll of Calgary; her brother Albert (Violet) Kopec of Canora, Saskatchewan; her sisters Emily Kosar of Yorkton, and Katie (Robert) Johnson of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; her sister-in-law Irene Kopec of Nanaimo, BC; and her many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Rose was predeceased by her parents, Anton and Nellie Kopec; husband, Paul; son, Walter ‘Marvin’; brother, Victor Kopec; sister and brother-in-law Anne and Halldor Gudmundson; and brother-in-law, Henry Kosar.
Prayer Vigil Service was held on Monday, September 24, 2012, at 7:00 p.m., at the Chapel of Nairn-Chyz Funeral Home in Roblin. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, September 25, at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Roblin, with Rev. Fr. James Ahaneku officiating.
