In Loving Memory of

Rene Ralph Carriere

1924 - 2012

Rene Ralph Carriere, age 88 years of Roblin, Manitoba, passed away suddenly on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Roblin District Health Centre.

Rene was born January 17, 1924 at San Clara, Manitoba, a son of George and Flora (nee Lamontagne) Carriere. He attended Walker School until it was time to help on the family farm along with his eight siblings. He also hauled grain, worked in the bush, and for farmers as far away from home as Markaroff. He rode his horse to and from work.

At the age of eighteen Rene enlisted in the Armed Forces during WW ll. He spent three years throughout Europe but never going to the front lines. He spent a lot of time assisting war torn countries.

On May 23, 1949 Rene was united in Holy Matrimony to Rose Davey at San Clara. Together they farmed and raised five sons, Roland, Edward, Maurice, Peter and Andy. They also took in three foster children for nine years, Yvonne, Louie, and Agnes Lucier. There were a lot of games played and fun had outside after church or after the chores were done.

As well as farming, Rene managed the San Clara Hotel, did carpentry work, and then worked for the Department of Highways until his retirement May 1998.

Following Rose's death, Rene kept busy fishing and looking after his large yard and as many flowers as he could, especially the flowers that Rose loved. Rene moved from the farm to Maple Manor in Roblin in 2007.

Rene belonged to the Royal Canadian Legion and enjoyed spending time with his comrades until his passing. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, curling, and playing cards with friends.

Rene was predeceased by his parents, George and Flora Carriere, his wife Rose of 40 years, and eldest son Roland; brothers, Leo, Armand, and Amede; only sister, Imelda (Nicholas) Wedensky, sisters-in-law, Annie Carriere, and Josephine Carriere.

Surviving are brothers, Edmond of Roblin, Laurent (Toni) of Winnipeg,  Manitoba, Aurel of Flin Flon, Manitoba and Clement (Eileen) of San Clara; sons, Edward (Deborah) of Winnipeg, Maurice (Terry) of Chestermere, Alberta, Peter (Brenda) of Chestermere, Andy (Cheryl) of San Clara as well as nine grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Louise Carriere of Flin Flon as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Prayer Vigil Service was held November 27, 2012, at 7:00 PM from the Chapel of Nairn-Chyz Funeral Home in Roblin.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated November 28, 2012 at 10:30 AM from Ste. Claire Roman Catholic Church in San Clara with Fr. James Ahaneku officiating. Cindy Carriere delivered the Eulogy. Ann McGinnis and Elaine Matiation read the Scripture Lessons. The Honour Guard was formed by members of The Royal Canadian Legion, Roblin Branch #24. Casket Bearers were Tamara Carriere, Kirsten Carriere, Kyle Carriere, Shane Carriere, Christopher Carriere, and Devron Carriere.   The Royal Canadian Legion, Roblin Branch # 24 conducted a Poppy Memorial Tribute.

Following the Interment at Ste. Claire Parish Cemetery a reception for family and friends was hosted by Darlene Martin at San Clara Recreation Centre.

"They shall not grow old,

As we that are left grow old:

Age shall not weary them,

Nor the years condemn,

At the going down of the sun

And in the morning

We will remember them."
