Randall (Randy) Yellowaga Obituary

Randall Steven Yellowaga - December 11, 1954 - August 10, 2018. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband and father, at the age of 63.
Randy was born, the third child and only son of Harry and Mary Yellowaga. He grew up on the farm in Shortdale and it remained one of his favorite places to stop on his tours around the countryside. He loved sharing stories of a childhood spent doing farm work and trapping with his dad.
Following graduation, from high school he took a heavy equipment operator's course at Red River Community College, then went to work for the CN Railroad as a loader operator. This job took him many places but home and the bush was where he longed to be.
In 1977, while working for Peteleski Construction in Roblin, he met Cathy Dayson, the love of his life. They were married July 28, 1979. Their son Colton was born May 8, 1991 and his world was rocked. Under that tough exterior, was a very proud and loyal dad. He enjoyed telling people about Colton's accomplishments, even if it wasn't the way HE would have done whatever the accomplishment happened to be.
Over the years Randy worked for Imperial Oil, Roblin Concrete, Asessippi Provincial Park, and Russell Redi-Mix. But he was most known for his passion for trapping. He won many top lot fur awards for his exceptional fur handling. He loved it when someone was interested in how he did things and could talk trapping for longer than you may have wanted to listen.
During the last months of his life, he was determined to keep trapping as long as he could. He and Cathy could be seen driving around twice a day checking the municipality culverts for beaver trouble. A special time was spent recently with two of his nephews who came from Alberta and they did beaver patrol with him and Colton. They all learned more than they ever wanted to know about setting traps and skinning but it will remain a treasured memory of a tough, determined man with an infectious laugh and heart of gold. We will all "love you forever RSY".
Randy will be sorely missed by his loving wife Cathy; son Colton (Cara); sister Esther Korol; sisters-in-law Fran (Dave Collette), Pat (Fred Case); brothers-in-law Bob (Betty) Dayson, Ken (Sharon) Dayson, and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Besides his parents, Randy was predeceased by his sister Ann; brothers-in-law Joe Tataryn, Fred Korol, Ted Dayson, Clifford Peats; and sister-in-law Thelma Peats.
A private funeral service was held at Knox United Church with Reverend Jenny Sprong officiating. Cremation has taken place and interment will take place at a later date.
