In Loving Memory of

Peter Yeroschak

1922 – 2014

It is with great sadness the family of Peter Yeroschak  announces his peaceful passing on Friday, February 21, 2014 at the Gilbert Plains Health Centre.

Peter was born January 8, 1922 in Poland, a son of John and Caroline (nee Zaroni) Yeroschak. In 1928, at the age of six, Peter arrived in Canada with his family settling in Wynard, Saskatchewan. Two years later they moved to Shortdale, Mantioba and it was there he attended Pozir School. At the age of eighteen he joined the army and served with the Winnipeg Grenadiers.

In 1944, Peter married Mary Ann Skocylas and they resided in the Petlura District where they raised their family and farmed for forty-six years. In addition to his farming, he also drove school bus for the Intermountain School Division. Upon his retirement, Peter moved to Roblin in 1991 where he continued to enjoy his hunting and fishing and his love for dancing. He was also a proud member of The Knights of Columbus Roblin Council #6425. He will be remembered by his family and friends as a jovial prankster and his story telling at the coffee shops. One of his greatest pride and joys were watching and coaching his sons play fastball.

Peter was predeceased in death by his parents, wife Mary Ann Skocylas September 28 1990, son Robert in 1972, daughter Margaret (at birth) and daughter in law Marina Yeroschak in 2008.

Peter is survived by his eleven children; Edward (Veronica) of Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Jerry (Irene) of Roblin, Morris (Shelley) of Olds, Alberta, Randy of Edmonton, Alberta, Martin (Kathy) of Winnipeg, David (Susan) of Winnipeg, Sheila (Ted) of Fort McMurray, Alberta, Alvin (Charleen) of Souris, Manitoba, Chris (Susan) of Montreal, Quebec, Rick (Colleen) of Roblin, and Karen (Shane) of Brandon, Manitoba. Peter will also be missed by twenty- one grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.

Gone Fishing

The weather's fine,

the tides are right,

and all the time I'm wishin'
that nothing else will matter,
just as long as I'm out fishin'.

A leaky boat or rocky coast —
if it's my favourite spot
the busy world can pass me by
when fish are runnin' hot.

And if the catch is large or small
it doesn't really matter
as long as I can eat the lot —
smoked, fresh, or cased in batter....

The Great Beyond has endless seas
with no forbidden sectors,
or stormy days, or rotten luck, -
or fisheries inspectors.

Those little ones that got away
(to bend my rod were tryin')
I'll say were huge —
but I confess my mates
will know I'm lyin'.

So look for me from time to time,
and if you find me missin',
be happy that for evermore
I've only gone out fishin'.
