In Loving Memory of
Paul Brazeau
1917 - 2013
Paul Brazeau, age 95 years of Roblin, Manitoba, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 20, 2013 at Roblin District Health Centre in Roblin.
Paul was born on December 8, 1917, at Roblin. When he was around one year of age Paul went to live with the Flamond family at Inglis, Manitoba. He received his education at Asessippi and Inglis Schools.
Paul started trapping at the age of eight years. He sold his first mink pelt to the Late Frank Clement who came to his place by horse and cutter. Mr. Clement paid Paul ten dollars – not bad money for a ten year old! He spent many years trapping. In 1989 his wild mink pelts were sold where over 60,000 pelts were auctioned in Toronto and in 1994 where over 50,000 were put up for sale. This was a great honour for Paul.
Paul worked on numerous jobs throughout his lifetime, including; a mink farm, bartending at hotels in Russell, Winnipeg, McGregor and also caretaking at the Saturn Hotel in Roblin.
Trapping, besides being a hobby, provided him with extra income. Paul had many other hobbies. He loved fishing both in the summer and winter. He built his own fish shacks for winter and in summer he enjoyed fishing in his boat as well as off shore. He liked to hunt and his freezer was always full of moose, elk, and deer. These hobbies were shared with many friends.
On June 23, 1962 Paul was united in Holy Matrimony to Della Langan at St. Mary’s Cathedral on St. Mary’s Avenue in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Paul and Della celebrated their fifty-first wedding anniversary this past June. Paul loved to garden, and he and Della would compete to see whose garden was the best. Paul always claimed that his garden was the best.
Paul’s happiest times were those spent living in Boggy Creek because of his love for the outdoors. He was a hard worker and was always busy with a new project. His latest was building a room in his garage for his four cats. Even after he was unable to drive he used his electric scooter to transport plywood and supplies for projects. The scooter also allowed Paul to get uptown to meet friends for coffee and a visit. He enjoyed old time music and a drink of scotch.
Surviving to mourn Paul’s death and cherish many fond memories are: his wife of 51 years, Della Brazeau of Roblin, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
