Olivine Coutts

     Mum had her last quiet and peaceful nap at her residence, Stensrud Lodge, in Saskatoon on 15 Jun 2020, having reached the grand age of 101 - plus a few months.

     Mum was born Olivine Yvonne Marguerite Bauldic in March 1919 on a farm near Makinak, MB into a family of 4 girls and 3 boys. Her French roots date back to the 1600's in Quebec and France prior to that. In Mum's days working took precedence over education, especially for girls. She was employed in a clinic, an aide to the Red Cross rural nurse when she met Dad, Jim Coutts. They were married quietly in Nov 1941 and together they made their way through the rest of the war years before settling in Riding Mountain, MB. After a brief stop in Amaranth, MB, Mum and Dad moved to Valley View, 8 miles west of Roblin. They had purchased a country store, service station and 3 log cabins. When construction of the Shellmouth Dam necessitated a move to higher ground they moved the store, attached a  new house and built 3 new cabins. As always there was a large garden. Mum loved her flowers and both she and Dad would be pleased to know their gardening genes have now passed down to the third generation.  Somehow while raising a family and helping run a business Mum found time to become a 4H leader, to enjoy her hobbies and to curl in winter. Her bonspielling days left many great memories, and one 8 ender!
     Mum and Dad moved into Roblin in 1974 for their retirement years. Initially semiretirement, as Mum was employed at the MacLeod's Store. Her community involvement increased tenfold as she became more involved with various United Church groups, the Roblin Hospital Auxilliary, the Roblin Agricultural Society, the Red Hatters, the Roblin Drop In Centre and others. Mum was a great believer in volunteering and lived by her beliefs well into her eighties. She was an avid walker and continued in exercise groups even  after moving to Saskatoon in 2006. 
     Mum learned to sew at a very young age and didn't stop until she was in her mid nineties. Along the way she showed her talent for many other hand crafts, cross stitch, plastic canvas, embroidery, knitting. Mostly though she loved to crochet and quilt. She was a very active member of the Roblin United Church quilt group. Many family members have quilts and afghans to remember her by and half the universe has a set of her famous place mats!
     Mum was a great cook and generous hostess, with a never-ending supply of butter tarts. The location of the winter card parties with friends sometimes depended on that supply. She loved to travel and she and Dad visited every province, the Yukon and the Territories. Later travels proved to the family that she wasn't just a 'happy camper'
but also an engaged and fun road companion!
     Mum was predeceased by an infant son Lloyd in 1946 and our Dad Jim in 1993. She is survived by one sister, Margaret Kelsey in southern Manitoba.  She will be sadly missed by her family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; Wayne (Mary Lee), Kimberly and Jason Quenneville and their daughter Elyse; Audrey (Al Larmon), Stacey and Kevin Baker and their daughter Taylor; Kirsten Larmon and Blake Speers and their sons Casper and Finnegan; Doug (Bev), Amanda and Rob Klein, Kyler and Aileen, and their children Chelsea and Matthew; and many nieces and nephews and their families  from both the Bauldic and Coutts families.
     Mum felt fortunate to be near Wayne and Mary Lee after Dad passed away. They were always supportive and provided care, especially with the challenges that arose during her last years.
     Mum will be fondly remembered by friends and family, for her happy outlook, her love of fun and her enduring sense of humour. The latter never more obvious than when she had just whoomphed you in a game of cribbage!

                                                                                                A private family graveside service will be held in Roblin at some future date.
