In Loving Memory of
James O. Ellis
1928 - 2014
It is with great sorrow and tears in our eyes that we announce that James Oliver Ellis left this world on Wednesday, September 24, 2014. He passed on peacefully at Roblin District Health Centre with his wife Florence at his side.
Oliver was born July 25, 1928 in Arcola, Saskatchewan to Ivan and Hazel (nee McQoid) Ellis. The family moved to Manitoba in the 1930’s. Oliver received his education in Tummel and Gilbert Schools. In his youth he worked on his family farm and in lumber camps for Britcher’s Lumber.
Oliver married Dorothy Charles on December 20, 1960 and they had four children Brian, Wayne, Debbie and Jim. In 1972 the family moved to the Ellis farm in the Shortdale District where Oliver and Dorothy farmed and raised their family together. Sadly, Dorothy passed away April 2, 1983.
On July 19, 1985 Oliver and Florence Todorovich were married. Oliver’s family expanded to include Don, Debbie and David Todorovich. Oliver and Florence continued farming until 1989 when they moved to Roblin. Oliver then had a brief third career at Home Hardware.
Oliver was predeceased by his parents Ivan and Hazel Ellis, wife Dorothy (Charles) Ellis, daughter Debbie Todorovich, grandson Bjorn Torfason, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Surviving to mourn Oliver’s death and cherish fond memories are his wife Florence Ellis of Roblin, sister Lorna (Jim) Hector of Ottawa, brother Bill (Myrna) Ellis of Sudbury, children Brian (Audra) Ellis of Gimli, Wayne Ellis of Winnipeg, Debbie (Todd) Torfason of Winnipeg, Jim Ellis (Joan Larlam) of Biggar, Saskatchewan, Don (Val) Todorovich of Brandon, Dave Todorovich of Regina, as well as seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
Family called to pay their respects on Friday, September 26, 2014 at the Chapel of Nairn-Chyz Funeral Home in Roblin.
Oliver’s Funeral Service was held Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 10:00 AM from the Evangelical Mission Church in Roblin, with Pastor Randy Moffit officiating. The organist, Laurie Moffit led the congregation in singing the hymns, “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”, and “Victory In Jesus”. Selected music was “Suppertime” by George Younce. The Eulogy and a Tribute was shared by family.
Following the Interment Service at Roblin District Cemetery, a reception was held at the Evangelical Mission Church Fellowship Hall.
The Ellis family wish to thank all the staff at Roblin District Health Centre for the care and comfort they provided to Oliver in his last days. Thanks to all who visited in hospital and those for sending gifts of various sorts. Thanks to Pastor Randy Moffit, Laurie Moffit, Mel Nemetchuk and the fellows parking cars. Thanks to the ladies for preparing and serving the lunch. Phone calls, visits, food, flowers, memorial gifts and many kindnesses shown to us were very much appreciated. Thank you to Bob and Diane Nairn for helping us thru this difficult time.
Kite Days
A sky and a good firm breeze.
And acres of land away from trees
And 100 yards of clean strong string.
Oh boy, Oh boy!
I call that spring!
