In Loving Memory of

Olga Wasylenchuk

1924 - 2015

Olga Wasylenchuk was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, baba, grandmother, aunt, and a good friend to many.

Olga passed away peacefully at the Roblin District Health Center on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at the age of 90 years.

Olga was born on May 6, 1924 in the R.M. of Hillsburg, a daughter of Bill and Frances (nee Zadorozny) Banasiuk.  She received her education in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. BC, and at Shortdale, Manitoba.

On June 22, 1941, Olga was united in Holy Matrimony to Mike Wasylenchuk at Roblin Manitoba. After their marriage, Mike and Olga farmed together and raised their eight children at Bield, Manitoba. Olga enjoyed farming with Mike and their family.  She was always Mike’s right hand… left hand, left leg, you name it- she was always there.

Olga was a long time member of the Shortdale Orthodox Church, then continued membership at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Roblin.  She was also a member of the Bield Community Club and enjoyed helping the ladies at the hall whenever needed.

Olga always looked forward to special occasions and getting together with her family and friends and enjoyed a good cup of tea with them. Olga treasured visits with family and friends rather than receiving gifts, but did enjoy the gifts as well.

Olga cared deeply for her children and grandchildren and was always interested in their accomplishments, and hearing about where life was taking them. When they were home for a visit she    would relish in their every word.

Olga loved to listen to the radio or pick up a newspaper and keep up with world events. She loved gardening, knitting and sewing, and puzzles. In fact, there is one puzzle still in her living room, half finished.  It is only half finished because when she had her floors redone, we moved the completed picture and it fell apart. All of us have tried and tried and tried at that puzzle and yet there it sits, over a year later.

Olga would always prepare a meal for family and friends. Baba loved spending time with her grandchildren and sharing stories. All her children and grandchildren enjoyed coming home for Ukrainian Christmas, especially for all the special Ukrainian dishes she prepared.

Olga and Mike farmed all their life, and after retirement to Roblin, a trip to the farm 2 or 3 times a day was not unusual. The farm was their life.

Olga Wasylenchuk was predeceased in death by:  her parents, William and Frances (Zadorozny) Banasiuk; her beloved husband, Michael Wasylenchuk on Nov. 3, 2008; her brother, Harry Banasiuk; her sisters, Elizabeth and Irene Banasiuk and her infant Granddaughter, Robin Wasylenchuk.

Olga leaves to mourn and cherish many fond memories; her sons, Mitchell (Evelyn) Wasylenchuk, Peter (Pat) Wasylenchuk and Kelvin Wasylenchuk (Monica Trach); her daughters, Lena (Gordon) Reed, Christine (Frank) Crusch, Marge (Otto) Kimerle, Barbara (Gene) Becker, and Connie Hodgson (Scott Turnbull).

Olga will also be dearly missed by seventeen grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, as well as extended family and a host of friends.

A Prayer Vigil Service was held on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at 7:00 PM at the Chapel of Nairn-Chyz Funeral Home in Roblin.

Olga’s Funeral Service was held on Monday, January 12, 2015 at 10:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Roblin, officiated by Rev. Fr. Brent Kuzyk.  The Casket Bearers were Waylon Becker, Cory Crusch, Julie Kemerle, Mike Kemerle, Crystal Wasylenchuk, David Wasylenchuk, Janine Wasylenchuk and Murray Wasylenchuk.  The Cross Bearer was Colby Dudek.  The Banner Bearers were Georgia Boyko and Tyler Hodgson and the Sacristan was Russell Nykolaishyn.

Immediately following the Funeral Service, a Memorial Dinner was held at the Roblin ’50 and Over Club, hosted by the St. John’s Orthodox Ladies.

Olga was laid to rest at the Shortdale Orthodox Cemetery in Shortdale, Manitoba.

In Mom and Dad’s honor we will continue to celebrate Ukrainian Christmas.

We will miss you dearly, Mom and please know you will always be loved.  Rest in peace- Vichnaya Pam’Yat.

Mother

We had a wonderful mother,

One who never grew old;

Her smile was made of sunshine,

And her heart was solid gold;

Her eyes were as bright as shining stars,

And in her cheeks fair roses you see.

We had a wonderful mother,

And that’s the way it will always be.

But take heed because

She’s still keeping an eye on all of us,

So let’s make sure

She will like what she sees.
