DIXON, Muriel Iris Born November 20, 1923 ~ October 31, 2024 Aged 100 years
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Muriel Iris Dixon on October 31, 2024 at the age of 100. Muriel was born November 20, 1923 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Charlie and Mary Fillemore. Muriel grew up with her 11 siblings-Mildred, Viola, Walter, Christina, Mabel, Edward, Helen, and twins Joan and June.
Muriel received her education at Makaroff school and at the age of 16 she left school and spent a few years helping every neighbour she could in the Grand Narrows district. At the age of 18 she ventured off to Oak Bluff to work for a local farmer. Later that year, on August 26, 1941, she came home and married her beloved husband, Norman Dixon. Norman was a farmer in the Grand Narrows District, and they raised their three boys, Maynard, Keith and Lyle on the farm.
Muriel loved picking wildflowers, canning and tending to her large garden on the farm. When she wasn’t busy farming in the summer and fall, she spent her days making beautiful quilts, knitting, crocheting, doing embroidery work and curling in the winter. Muriel belonged to the Women’s Institute of Grand Narrows, the San Clara curling club, the ladies Auxiliary in San Clara, and The Royal Purple in Togo, SK.
In 1994 Muriel moved into an apartment in Roblin continuing her love of needlework. She then joined the Deepdale ladies and the 50 and over club. In later years she moved to Maple Manor following Crocus Court Personal Care in Roblin.
Muriel is predeceased by her parents Charlie and Mary, husband Norman who served in WWII, son Maynard, daughter in laws Lorraine Dixon, Pat Dixon and her siblings, Viola, Walter, Christina, Mabel, and Joan.
She is survived by her sons Keith (Elizabeth) Dixon, Lyle (Diana) Dixon, her grandchildren: Laurie (Ron) Henderson, Blair Dixon (Susie Mulvane), Karri Dixon, her great grandchildren: Jasmine and Ashleigh LaFournaise, Abigail Dixon and her siblings Edward, Helen, Wilma, and June and many nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to Crocus Court, NairnChyz-Wolkowski Funeral Service, Vivian Radford and Marg West of Roblin’s Knox United Church.
