Davey, Morley Louis, May 11, 1927 - April 28, 2018, aged 90 years
Never afraid of hard work, at a young age Morley worked for various farmers in the area. In the early 1950’s Morley began work in the nickel mines that lasted for some 25 years, first in Lynn Lake, Manitoba and later in Elliot Lake, Ontario, as well as Esterhazy, Saskatchewan, Sudbury, Ontario, and Thompson, Manitoba. It was at this time Morley was able to make his mother’s dream come true, a trip to visit St. Joseph’s Oratory in Montreal, Quebec. A trip she gratefully cherished. In the 1960’s Morley’s passion for farming was realized. The “Ponderosa” in Boggy Creek, Manitoba was the dream come true.
On November 9, 1968 Morley was united in marriage to Beatrice Classen. They spent approximately twenty years farming, at first mixed farming and later dairy farming. They worked hard along side each other and had a successful business. They enjoyed fishing in the summer and winter, dancing, and playing cards. They enjoyed good neighbors and friends. Family was always welcomed for a good meal, a shot or two, laughter, and plenty of reminiscing. Hard work payed off, Morley and Bea enjoyed a memorable trip to Alaska.
Morley had an amazing mind. He could remember dates and people from way back and tell us all the stories that came from these great recollections. Morley and Bea retired from farming and moved to Roblin, Manitoba. Following Beatrice’s death, Morley kept himself active. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to his neighbors. He loved fishing, dancing, and coffee every morning at the 50 and Over Club. He enjoyed the Shell River Jamboree in Boggy Creek, Manitoba, country music, sports, and gardening. Morley was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He donated generously to the building of Ste. Claire’s Roman Catholic Church in San Clara, Manitoba in 1997.
On September 7, 2014, a tragic accident left Morley paralyzed. He carried on bravely and faced his adversities. He spent 2 ½ years in the home he loved, with the unselfished care of Cheryl and Andy Carriere. A very special thanks to you. Morley’s last year was spent in the Roblin and District Hospital and eventually the Personal Care Home until his passing.
Morley is survived by sisters Clara Brazeau, Martha (Kelly) Lachance, Anne (Lawrence) McGinnis, and Elaine Matiation; brother Leo (Lorraine) Davey; brother-in-law Jeff Burton; stepsons Harold (Monica) Classen, Brian (Lori) Classen, Doug (Kathy) Classen; stepdaughter Gwen (Rick) Rogers; and their families; numerous nieces, nephews, and special friend and companion Cecile Shewchuk.
Morley was predeceased by his wife Beatrice; step-grandson Jeff; parents Vitaline and Henry Davey; brothers Gordon (sister-in-law Freda) and Edward Davey; sisters Rose (Rene) Carriere, Lou Burton, and Myrna Davey; and brother-in-law Joe Brazeau.
Special thanks to Karen Martin, Laurie Shullman, as well as the numerous care givers who helped make Morleys’ days brighter.
