HERASYMOWYCH, Michael Elias Born October 21, 1959 – October 27, 2025. Aged 66 years.
Michael Elias Herasymowych (Known as Mike and Harry-O) saddened family and friends with his sudden passing at the Russell Hospital on October 27, 2025. He had the greatest love for all creatures, family and friends. Mike would go out of his way (which often got him into trouble at work and home to help any type of bird, insect, animal or reptile. Michael also loved sports and in his younger years stood out in many such as table tennis, hockey, javelin and more. Mike worked at Vale Inco Mine in Thompson, Manitoba for 30 years and retired after he reunited with his high school sweetheart and his first love (at the age of 16) – Kathy (Crabb) Roschuk. They lived in Winnipeg together, became engaged and were excited to own a historic home along The Red River where he could launch his boat and enjoy the wild life living around the River.
Mike became bored and decided to obtain work with the Pembina Trails School Division where he obtained his 5th Class Power Engineering Certificate, which would accompany his Red Seal Mechanic Status from Inco. He soon came to love working as a Janitor in the school system and became "Mr. Mike" to the Children in the Schools in Winnipeg and later in Winnipegosis, Manitoba. Many Children he met over the years held a special place in his heart. He loved to be a mentor to them and would comment on how fast they grew. He always tried to instil good habits and behaviours as well as keeping their spaces at school cleaner. Mike often spoke of how he loved the work he did over the years at Inco and Pembina Trails. Living by the water was always his dream and he missed Benyk’s Point a lot recently.
Left to mourn Michael are his love of his life, Kathy (Crabb) Roschuk; his two sisters: Sonia (Sunny) and (Dale) Francis from Stonewall, Manitoba and Martha (Moss) and (Gord) McClelland of Penticton, British Columbia. As well as his Daughter Laurie Rae and (Jamie) Cole of Dauphin and Son Michael Herasymowych of Winnipeg. He loved his four grandchildren: Ava and Declan Cole and Thurston and Ivy Ann Herasymowych. Mike's Uncle Otto Duczak (Jill) held a special place in his heart.
Michael was predeceased by his parents Lil and Mike Herasymowych, his niece Candace, along with his Grandparents Elias and Julianna Helen Duczak from Timmins, Ontario.
A private family service in memory of Michael will be held in the Summer of 2026.
Some of Mike's favourite quotes from Startrek: “Space, the final frontier” and “To boldly go where no man has gone before"
From Kathy to Michael: "I have been, and always Shall be, your friend" Rest in Peace Love.
