In Loving Memory of
Melania “Molly” Korpan
1916 - 2012
Melania “Molly” Korpan passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2012 in Roblin District Health Centre in Roblin, Manitoba at the age of 96 years.
Molly was born on January 9, 1916 in Roblin, one of the youngest of eight children born to Peter and Pearl (nee Kulyk) Yakimishyn. She attended Gleneden School out in the country and worked on the family farm for some time. Molly eventually joined her brother Mike at the Hillside Store where she worked for him for three years. She spent the next three years working in Glieser’s Hotel where she would end up meeting the love of her life, Michael Korpan. On October 21, 1939, Molly married Michael and they were very grateful to eventually be blessed by the birth of their only child, John. In 1952, Molly rented a building and opened a ladies wear store, the Roblin Style Shop which she operated for eight years. Then in 1960 she and Mike bought a bigger building and converted it into a grocery store “Roblin Shopping Centre” which they ran until 1973 when they sold it.
Molly lived in Roblin all her life and up until just a few years ago continued to play an active role in the community. She held various roles on different committees and belonged to many organizations including Royal Purple, 50 and Over Club, The U.C.W.L, twenty-five year member of the Horticultural Society and treasurer of the Holy Redeemer Ukrainian Catholic Church Bingo.
She loved gardening as many hours were spent in her garden - watering, weeding, and fertilizing her vegetables, picking raspberries, and taking care of her many flower beds. All her hard work and effort did not go unrewarded as she took home many prizes for her entries at the Fun Fair and proudly showed off her beautiful rose bush and other news worthy vegetables she harvested from her garden in the pages of the Roblin Review each fall. When she had the opportunity, she enjoyed attending the Lily Festival in Neepawa.
Not all that long ago, Molly picked the apples from her apple tree in the yard and made several apple pies. The next day when she was going up town for coffee she packed the pies in the carrier on her walker and headed up town. By the time coffee break had ended Molly had sold all her pies.
Molly travelled to many places and had gone on many trips to the United States and Mexico. When she was at home, Molly liked walking up town every day to have coffee with her friends, playing Whist at the 50 and Over Club and crafting. She enjoyed the times when her nieces and nephews would come to visit and even just a quick chat over the phone would brighten her day. Molly always kept busy, whether it was cross stitch, quilting, or crocheting.
Most of all Molly loved spending time with her granddaughters and made many trips to Saskatchewan to attend all of their special events. She was delighted when her granddaughters came to visit her, and rain or shine she would take them uptown with her early each morning for pancakes. She especially loved teaching the girls about their Ukrainian heritage and devoted many hours and lot of patience to teach them how to make perogies, cabbage rolls, bake paska, write pysanka and cross stitch.
Molly was strong-willed and very independent and will always be remembered that way. She is now reunited with her husband Mike, who predeceased her in 1974, parents Peter and Pearl Yakimishyn, brothers John Yakimishyn,, Bill (Annie) Yakimishyn, Mike( Anne) Yakimishyn, and Andrew (Ann) Yakimishyn, and sisters, Anne (Bill) Kapetz, Mary (Mike) Barnoski, and Kay(Fred) Nykolaishyn.
Molly is survived by her only son John Korpan of Edmonton, Alberta, and her grandchildren Sara Korpan (Stephen Bigoray) of Sherwood Park, Alberta, and Michelle Korpan (Steven Sefarling) of Regina, Saskatchewan.
We know her strong faith in God has taken her to a place free from pain and suffering, and we should celebrate her life, as we will all meet again one day.

I’m Free
Don’t grieve for me, from pain I’m free,
I’m following the path of God has led, you see.
I took his hand when I heard His call,
I turned around and left it all.
I could not stay another day,
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way,
I found the peace on a sunny day.
If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joys.
A family shared, a laugh a kiss,
Oh yes, these things I too will miss,
Be not burdened with times of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life’s been full, I’ve savoured so much,
Good family, good times, a loved one’s touch.
Perhaps my times seemed all too brief,
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts, and share to thee,
God wanted me now, from pain I’m free.
