Mary “Margaret” Wehnan (nee Kempinski)

August 15, 1930 – August 12, 2018

 

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Mother, Baba, Sister, Aunt, Margaret Wehnan at the age of 87 years.

 

Margaret was born is Shortdale in 1930 and had attended the Pozir school. She left school in grade 5 to look after her family and ailing parents. She later went onto Winnipeg where she met her future husband Mathew, they were married on October 14th, 1950. Together they moved to Flin Flon where they owned a restaurant and had their first child Debra. In 1954 they had bought a farm and moved to Petlura. Margaret always had a love of gardening and her flowers, in the summer months she was always busy either out in the garden or busy in the kitchen doing canning. A vigorous game of canasta was always enjoyed and visiting with family and friends. She was head cook of the Petlura Holy Ascension Catholic Church for many many years. In 2005 she moved to Grandview where she resided until her passing.

 

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Debra of Winnipeg, son Dale (Marie) Shortdale, Grandchildren Katherine & Allison. She is also survived by her brother Mike (Margaret) Kempinski, sisters Mavis Kuz & Carol Shyminsky.

 

Margaret was predeceased by her parents Karl & Sophie Kempinski, husband Matthew, brothers Frank, Pat & Johnny Kempinski and sister Rose Kosh.

 

In lieu of flowers donations can by made in Margaret’s memory to the Petlura Holy Ascension Catholic Church, c/o Joe Slobozian, Shortdale, MB. R0L 1W0.

 

In accordance with Margaret’s wishes cremation has taken place and an immediate family service will be held at a later date.
