In Loving Memory of

Mary Nabe

1913 - 2015

Mary (nee Weitzel) Nabe passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2015.  Mary was born February 17, 1913 in Rhein, Saskatchewan.  As a young girl the family moved to a farm in the Togo district where Mary received her education.

In 1932 Mary married George Nabe in a double wedding ceremony with brother Alex and George’s sister Annie. They then farmed in the Makaroff district.

George and Mary were blessed with four children all of which were raised and educated in the Makaroff district. In 1954 the family moved to Togo, Saskatchewan. Mary was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. Mary was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Togo and St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Roblin. She belonged to Ladies Aid and was very active in all of the church activities that were going on. Mary’s faith was strong and took comfort in knowing that Jesus Christ was her Lord and Saviour. She knew her life on earth was not all there was and took comfort in knowing heaven would be her eternal home. If you were to recite scripture, pray or she would help with confirmation studies she would say “slow down, not so fast” you pray nice and slow. Also, if you were to have a pastor over for a visit, you must be wearing a dress, not slacks a dress and you do not dance on a Sunday.

Mary was an excellent cook and housekeeper.  She loved gardening and the cellar was filled every fall with preserves and sauerkraut.

Mary's husband George passed away in 1978. In 1987 Mary sold her house and moved into the Assiniboine Manor in Togo. In 1997 she moved to Roblin to be closer to family as she needed more help.  Mary lived in Co-op Housing, Roblin Residence and in February 2005 she became a resident of Crocus Court Personal Care Home where she lived until her passing.

Mary was predeceased by her parents (George Jacob & Anna Maria (nee Fuchs) Weitzel. Husband George, Son Lawrence, Grand-daughter Sheryl Grundy, Son-in-law Ken Franklin, Brothers Jack(Millie) Weitzel , Alex (Annie) Weitzel , Sisters Molly (George) Staub, Elizabeth (Fred) Nabe, Pauline (Bruno) Mitchell, Brothers-in-law Dave (Beth) Nabe, Pete (Martha) Nabe, Jack (Millie) Nabe.

Mary leaves to mourn her children Shirley (Leonard) Grundy, Gertrude (Harvey) Hack, Ken (Roseanne) Nabe, 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great- grandchildren and  numerous nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Service for Mary Nabe was held Saturday January 24, 2015 at 1:00 PM from St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Roblin, MB, with Pastor Barry Wood officiating. The organist, Mrs. Debbie Funk, led the congregation in singing the hymns “The Lord’s My Shepherd, I’ll Not Want”, and “Be Still My Soul”.
