November 19, 1956 ~ March 23, 2014 (age 57) 57 Years OldIn Loving Memory of
Marjorie “Marge” Corrine Soltys
1956 – 2014
Marge Soltys, age 57 years of Roblin, Manitoba, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at the Roblin District Health Centre.
Marjorie Corrine (nee MacKay) Soltys was born November 19, 1956 in Russell, Manitoba, to Donald and Helen MacKay of Binscarth, Manitoba. She and her brother Glen were raised on a farm near the village of Binscarth. After attending elementary and middle school, she graduated from Major Pratt High School in Russell in 1974.
Marge met her future husband Michael while he was working construction near her parent’s farm while she attended high school. She married Mike Soltys June 29, 1974 in Binscarth. They chose to make their home in Roblin, where they went on to have four children; Sheldon, Shawna, Steven and Sheila.
Marge was primarily a stay at home parent while Mike drove truck and maintained his family farm. She did, however, work casually as a clerk, waitress, cook and for a short while drove semi-truck with her husband; while raising their children. In 2001, Mike and Marge opened their restaurant “The Down Town Diner” in Roblin, where they cooked for the locals as well as many travellers passing through Roblin. They also fed and entertained many of their friends and family for the next ten years. Marge’s final career was as a homecare worker where she found much satisfaction in caring for and chatting with her clients, many of whom she got to know from their restaurant.
Throughout Marge’s life, her Mother Helen, remained her closest confident and friend. Helen also had a large part in helping in the café whenever Mike and Marge needed the extra hand serving coffee, greeting patrons or washing dishes.
Marge always insisted in making every holiday special with themed decorations and abundance of food. She was always thoughtful with her many gifts and cards to friends and family for every occasion. Marge always had a special treat for every child that ate at, or came to visit them at the restaurant. Everyone will remember her wit and infectious laugh.
Marge was predeceased by her father Donald MacKay, her brother Glen MacKay, and her son Sheldon Soltys.
Surviving to mourn Marge’s death and cherish many fond memories are; her mother Helen MacKay of Binscarth; her husband Michael Soltys of Roblin; daughter Shawna and Todd, Keira and Natassia Eckert of Russell; her son Steven and Sacha Soltys of Airdrie, Alberta; her daughter Sheila and Jason, Jaxxon and Justice Tremblay of Red Deer, Alberta; as well as a large extended family and a host of friends.
Marge’s Funeral Service was held Thursday, March 27, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Knox United Church in Roblin. Mrs. Elaine Dixon officiated at the service. The Eulogy was delivered by Alvin Kingdon, a family friend. Selected music was “His Eye Is On The Sparrow”, “In The Garden”, “Amazing Grace”, Abide With Me” and “God Be With You”.
