MARKOSKY, Marion Born December 2, 1942 ~ April 26, 2026. Aged 83 years.
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Marion Markosky (nee Gibney), beloved wife of Ken Markosky of Roblin, Manitoba. After a courageous 8-year battle with cancer, Marion passed away on April 26 at the age of 83, surrounded by family.
Marion was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan and lived on the family farm with her parents, Mina and Henry (Kid) and her siblings Donna Jean (Vince) and Bruce. After graduating high school, she began her career as a dental assistant in Yorkton. She married Ken on July 21, 1962, and started their married life adventure in Yorkton. They lived there until 1970 with a break of two years, when they moved to Toronto for Ken to attend DeVry Technical Institute. While living in Toronto, they were bitten by the “ski bug” and brought that love back to the prairies, building ski hills and opening ski stores!
They moved to Regina from Yorkton in 1970 to open the Ski Shop, where Marion worked until Lisa was born. Their next move was to Fort Qu’Appelle to work on Mission Ridge Ski Hill and they owned and operated a machine shop. In 1980 they moved to Roblin, first in town and then out on the old Mark Valley ski hill.
Marion was co-owner of all their businesses (e.g, Fish Farms, ski stores, Mark Valley Ski Hill, Kenco Industries and wild rice farming.) While Ken was the “face”, Marion worked tirelessly behind the scenes to keep everything running smoothly. She did all of this while raising her children and working at Mitchell’s Drug Store for many years.
Her favorite vacation was having her entire family, including her brother and sister and their families, get together for a ski trip to Fernie. She loved gathering family together. She would bake for days to prepare…making chocolate cake, date squares, ginger snap cookies, almond crisps, chocolate chip cookies and packing them all in very “special” metal tins that were traditionally used from year to year.
She loved birds, especially hummingbirds, many which returned every year. She knew them well and even named one Bossy. She had numerous bird feeders, mostly made by Ken, attracting finches, orioles, and determined squirrels.
She was an avid sports fan. Moving to Manitoba in 1980 didn’t stop her love of the Saskatchewan Rough Riders! In addition to being a skier herself, she loved curling and figure skating.
Marion loved pets and cared for many beagles (Snoopy, Dino, Pebbles, Maggie) over the years. In recent years she enjoyed her two beloved indoor cats (Socks and Peanuts) and many outdoor cats and wild deer.
Marion is survived by Ken, her husband of 63 years; their children Lisa (Jayson), and Jason (Jenn); grandchildren Jackson, Mackenzie, and Madeleine; her siblings Bruce and Donna Jean (Vince); and her two sisters-in-law as well as numerous nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents Mina and Henry Gibney.
While her family and friends mourn their loss, they celebrate the incredible life she lived.
Due to technical difficulties, a recording of the service will posted shortly after the service is completed.
