Marilyn Simpson Obituary

SIMPSON, Elizabeth Marilyn Born January 12, 1947 ~ November 26, 2025. Aged 78 years.

On November 26th, 2025 Elizabeth Marilyn Simpson (Sibbald) passed away peacefully on the family farm. Marilyn was born in Minnedosa, Manitoba on January 12th, 1947 to Malcolm Mulvey Sibbald and Grace Sibbald (Trott).

As a child Marilyn lived in Souris and Winnipeg before the family settled in Rapid City Manitoba. Marilyn attended grade school and high school in Rapid City.  She completed grade 12 at Elton Collegiate in Forrest Manitoba, graduating in 1965 with top marks in her class.

She took Laboratory and X-Ray Technician training in Winnipeg at the Manitoba Institute of Technology (now Red River Community College), graduating in 1967 after training in Portage La Prairie, Selkirk and Brandon. 

She moved to Roblin in September 1967 to work at the Roblin Lab and X-Ray. She met Harvey Simpson the spring of 1968 and were married on October 26th, 1968. The family grew with the birth of Marc in 1969 and Lisa in 1972. Marilyn continued to work at Roblin Lab and X-Ray from 1970-75 and 1980-2004 when she retired. She also helped Harvey with running the farm. 

Marilyn was very involved with the community.  She held various roles with the Roblin Knox United Church, the most recent being Board Chair.  As well she was involved with the Northland Presbytery Conference, Roblin Food Bank, Roblin Clinic Board, Keystone Pioneers Museum, Frank Skinner Arboretum, Donor’s Choice, Miriam’s Circle, Crown Jewels/Roblin Rubies, PRHA District Advisory Council and she was a life member of the Kinette Club of Roblin.

Harvey and Marilyn travelled extensively, visiting family across Canada and the US as well as numerous trips to Egypt, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Swaziland, Great Britain and Ireland, Central America, Tonga and New Zealand. They went on cruises in the Mediterranean and Caribbean and Alaska, among others. They often traveled with sister Myrna and brother-in-law Ken Bayes and sister Evelyn and brother-in-law Barry Finlay as well as her cousins Art and Marj Wilson.

She also enjoyed quilting, sewing and gardening. She kept an extensive vegetable and flower garden as well as a large Saskatoon patch that is popular with local people when the berries are ripe for picking.

Marilyn was predeceased by her parents Malcolm and Grace and her sister Myrna, Brother in Laws Ken Bayes and Allan Dietrich, Sister-in-Law Bea Simpson and nephews Kevin Bayes and Jim Dietrich.  She is survived by husband Harvey, sister Evelyn (Barry) Finlay, son Marc (Amara), daughter Lisa Simpson-Dietrick (Bill), grandchildren Megan, Ana Sofia, Malcolm, Benjamin and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family.
