Margaret Pearl Yakubowski, age 97 years of Roblin, Manitoba, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at the Crocus Court Personal Care Home in Roblin.
Margaret was born to Eli and Katherine (nee Budz) Shewchuk on October 4, 1919 on the farm in the RM of Calder, Saskatchewan. She received her education in a country school at Clova. Following her education, she stayed at home to help on the farm.
In 1943, she married Joe Yakubowski. Following this, they farmed in the San Clara, Manitoba district for a number of years. They were blessed with two sons, Metro and William (Billy).
After three disastrous crop failures in a row, Margaret and Joe were forced to sell and move on. They then bought a small hotel in Shipman, Saskatchewan.
Fourteen years later, they sold out again and bought the Queen’s Hotel at Russell, Manitoba. Margaret was a wonderful cook and a great hostess and made many friends over the years.
In 1970, Margaret and Joe sold the Queen’s Hotel and retired. In retirement, they travelled extensively. They travelled by car from the Pacific to the Atlantic, from the Great Lakes to the Arctic as well as parts of the United States. Margaret and Joe were a great team and always did things together.
Eventually, they retired altogether and built their home in the beautiful Assiniboine Valley. They enjoyed fishing and spending time with their many friends over the years in their home.
After Joe’s passing on January 10, 1999, Margaret lived in her home with her son Metro. Declining health resulted in the need for nursing care, and Margaret became a resident of Crocus Court Personal Care Home until her passing on October 5, 2016.
