In Loving Memory of

Mable Barbara Martin

1919 - 2016

Mable Martin, age 97 years of Roblin, Manitoba, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at Crocus Court Personal Care Home in Roblin.

Mable was born on May 24, 1919 in the RM of Boulton, Manitoba.  She was the eldest of seven children born to Nick and Mary (nee Gabor) Chescu.

Mable attended Shell River School in the rural Shell Valley District.  After completing Grade 3 and leaving school, she worked on the farm with her parents and was later employed by the Dunn family in the Russell community.

In 1941, Mable married Jim Martin at her parents’ farm.  Together they raised two girls; Doreen and Marie and farmed in the Inglis District.  They shared a love of Ukrainian music, and would attend barn dances, social gatherings and weddings in their community.

In 1972, Mable and Jim bought a house in Inglis and moved to Inglis.  Later on, Mable and Jim sold their farm and retired from farming.

Mable and Jim enjoyed gardening and always tended a huge vegetable and flower garden.  In the evenings, they would go play Bingo.  They were blessed with wonderful neighbors.  They would often take trips to Snow Lake, Bonnyville, Edmonton, Ontario and once to the old country- Romania.

After Jim died in 1999, Mable continued to live in Inglis, maintained the yard with vegetable and flower garden and still found time to enjoy playing Bingo.  Mable was a hard worker, an excellent cook and kept a spotless clean house.  All members of the family and her dear neighbors would assist in any way to help Mable, including checking up on her, helping with yard care, repairing the oil furnace, delivering groceries and making sure Mable got a ride to church.  The family thanks these people from the bottom of their hearts.

On June 15, 2008, Mable moved to the Roblin Apartment and was blessed with new friends here.  She continued to enjoy visits from family, friends, grandchildren and great grand children.

In December of 2013, Mable moved to the Crocus Court Personal Care Home where she continued to reside until her passing.

Mable was predeceased by her father Nicholas and mother Mary (nee Gabor) Chescu; her beloved husband Jim; her sisters, Vera (Barney) Gradwell, Elsie Wachnuk, and Sadie (Jim) Kobluk; her brothers, John (Helen) Chescu and Theodore (Irene) Chescu and her son-in-law John Radford.

Mable is survived by her daughters, Doreen Radford of Bonnyville, AB and Marie (Steve) Yahodynski of Roblin, MB; her brother, George (Nellie) Chescu of Inglis, MB; her brother-in-law, Pete Wachnuk of Mount Hope, ON; her grandchildren, Merril (Betty) Radford, Barbara (Brian) Parenteau, Shawn (Annette) Radford, Derek (Willemina) Yahodynski, and Stephanie (Darren) Yakimishyn; her twelve grandchildren, Jessie-Leigh, Kassidy, Jayada, Jaydon, Kenzie, Jeryika, Abbigail, Natasha, Sheldon, Elise, Eleanor, and Kailyn, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A Prayer Vigil Service was held on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Nairn-Chyz Funeral Home with Father Orest Olekshy officiating.
