In Loving Memory of
Louise Marie Mailhot
1925 - 2015
Louise Marie Mailhot was the beloved wife of Hervé Joseph Mailhot of Roblin, Manitoba, a loving mother to Noella Mailhot (Ian Johnson) of Montreal, Quebec, and Madelaine Mailhot of Calgary, Alberta, a beloved grandmother to Sarah Louise Johnson of Montreal, Quebec and well as an aunt to numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Louise was predeceased in death by her parents, Desiré and Justine (nee Ferey) Vermeylen; her brothers, Adelain, Albert, Gaston, George, Emile, and Louie Vermeylen; her sisters, Germaine, Bertha, and Amelia Vermeylen. She was the last survivor of her nine siblings in the Vermeylen family.
Louise’s parents immigrated to Canada from Belgium. She was born in Redvers, Saskatchewan on November 29, 1925.
When Louise was about seven years old, her parents moved to Boggy Creek, Manitoba, where she attended Grand Prairie School. As a teenager, she liked to ride a Shetland pony to chase the cattle and to get the mail. She also loved going to dances. When she was about twenty-five years old, she met a handsome fellow named Hervé Mailhot, and they were married within two years.
Hervé was a farmer, and their first homestead was located in Silverwood, Manitoba. From the onset of living on the farm, Louise would always light a candle at the first sound of a thunderstorm, and she would pray that the crops would be protected from the hail stones. Mother nature was no match for Louise’s faith and prayers; no crops were ever destroyed by hail during the thirty years that they farmed.
Throughout her life, Louise’s passion was to tend to her garden, and cutworms and potato bugs did not stand a chance against her.
Louise was a fighter. In her lifetime, she underwent nine surgeries, three of them being related to Cancer. She always did things on her own terms, and she refused chemotherapy and radiation on all three Cancer surgeries. She said that Cancer was never going to beat her, and she was right.
Louise passed away peacefully at the age of eighty-nine on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at 5:20 a.m. at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre.
Louise, we will always remember that in John 14:2, Jesus told us; “In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.” We know that you are in the room that God has prepared for you, and you are waiting for us to come and join you one day. Until then, rest in peace, and we will see you again.
- Hervé, Madelaine, Noella, Ian, and Sarah.
