YAKIMISHYN, Leona Ruth Born July 7, 1956 – June 17, 2025. Aged 68 years.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leona Ruth Yakimishyn (NEE Cockerill) on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at the age of 68 years.

Leona was born July 7, 1956, to Lenard and Alvina Cockerill (NEE Nastrom) in Roblin, Manitoba. The family had a small farm with a few animals and some crops. Leona helped Gus with the garden, canning, and they hauled wood together. Soon after, she had a daughter by the name of Kyla born on February 8, 1984.

Leona saw so many changes throughout the years. She worked at the Roblin recycling depot, where she had lots of fun with her coworkers. She also attended the Roblin HERO Club where she enjoyed playing games, cards, going camping and helping in the kitchen to make meals for everyone else. She also enjoyed living at the Roblin Residence, visiting friends, playing games, and then having a cup of tea after cards.

Outside of our family, Mom was loved by many for her kindness, her sense of humour and for making people feel comfortable in her presence.

Leona is predeceased by her father, Lenard Cockerill; her husband, Gus Yakimishyn; and her brothers, Dereck and Greg Cockerill.

Leona is survived by her daughter, Kyla Yakimishyn; her mother, Alvina Cockerill; Rick and Fern, Barry and Margret, Suzanna and Mat and their 6 children, Joel and Caroline and their son, Donna and Ken, Scott and Morgan, Cassandra and John and their two sons, Sharon and Glen, Chris and his two daughters, Michael and Sam and their daughter, Noreen and Tim, Dustin and Marissa, and Briana.
