In Loving Memory of
Lawrence Joseph Lafournaise
1937 – 2017
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Lawrence Joseph Lafournaise, aged 80 years of Roblin, Manitoba. He passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2017 in the comfort of his own home.
Lawrence was born on January 12, 1937 to Pete and Clara (nee LaVeele) Lafournaise, and grew up in Boggy Creek in the Shell River district.
Lawrence worked as a logger and an outdoorsman to provide for his family. He enjoyed many of the simple things in life. He loved to camp with his son-in-law Rene and his family. He fished and trapped all throughout his life. Fish was often on the menu for breakfast, lunch and supper!
One of his greatest passions was gardening and he was very particular about it. He was often seen out in his garden digging and weeding in the earliest hours- more than likely before the birds were awake.
Lawrence had a knack for fixing things, and had an avid interest in clocks. He had over 40 clocks at last count and his place was always ticking along.
He was a great cook, and his specialty was the Metis traditional food. He was kind of a clean freak, and had his own special sense of humor.
We have another star shining down upon us, rest easy Uncle Lunx.
Lawrence was predeceased by his wife Annette (nee Paul) Lafournaise, his daughter Wilma Lafournaise, his parents, Pete and Clara Lafournaise and numerous brothers and sisters.
Left to mourn his passing but rejoice in his memories are his daughter Karen (Rene) Martin, his grandson Robin (Trisha) Martin, his granddaughter Jamie (JB) Martin and great grandson Ryder, his grandson Trevor (Karlie) Martin and great grandchildren Luxy, Renay and Donnie. Lawrence will also be missed by his sisters, Fern (Ephrem) Paul and Bertha Henry as well as numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins and close friends.
A Prayer Vigil Service was held on Monday, January 23, 2017 at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Nairn-Chyz Funeral Home in Roblin, officiated by Father Bastin.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 11:00 AM in Ste. Claire Roman Catholic Church in San Clara, Manitoba, also officiated by Father Bastin.
The Casket Bearers, Rodney Wilson, Greg Davey, Robert Paul, Randy Davey, Butch Fleury and Allan Poitras laid Lawrence into eternal rest in Ste. Claire Parish Cemetery. Lawrence’s grandchildren, great grandchildren and all who knew him and shared in his life were considered Honourary Casket Bearers.
Following the Interment Service, a time of fellowship and refreshments was held in the New Life Fellowship Centre in San Clara.
