Delaurier, Joseph Alexandre Leo, April 5, 1945 - September 26, 2018 entered eternal rest at the St. Boniface Hospital. Joe was the eldest of 12 children of Alexandre and Cecile Delaurier. The family lived and farmed near Laurier, Manitoba.
Joe was born with heart problems and was of poor health as a child. At the age of 14, he underwent a series of cutting edge surgeries at St. Boniface Hospital. This proved to save his life and Joe never looked back. He was set to make up for lost time, and in his own words, “I was going to really live the rest of my life”.
Joe went to primary school in Laurier. He then moved to Gravelbourg (Sask) for two years before returning home to finish high school in Laurier. Joe went on to Red River College for two more years and obtained his diploma in Electrical Technology. Upon completion of school, Joe worked a few years for Manitoba Hydro, where he installed generators in remote northern communities. Joe loved working in the north.
Joe fell in love with Doreen Sutherland and they were married in Winnipeg on July 8th, 1972. They lived in Winnipeg, Laurier and Ste. Rose Du Lac before settling in Roblin, where they lived together for the next 42 years. Together, Joe and Doreen started Dee’s Electric Ltd., an electrical business they operated from 1975 to 2011. Doreen and Joe’s family was completed on February 12th, 1984, when they were blessed with their son, Dion. Life was now perfect for Joe.
Joe loved people. His hearty laugh and outgoing personality made him the life of the party. Joe also loved working as well as teaching his many electrical apprentices.
More than anything though, Joe loved his family and his friends…. and they loved him!
Joe is survived by his son Dion, Dion’s fiancée Chelsy Doerksen, his siblings; Sylvio (Vivianne), Yvon (Marilyn), Marie Anne (Ronald), Patrice, Murielle, Lucille (Paul), Joel (Marilyn), Guy (Krista), sister in-laws; Angele, Diane and Marilyn, as well as many beloved nephews and nieces. Joe is predeceased by his wife Doreen, parents; Alexandre and Cecile, brothers; Leo, Ovide, Louis, and brother in-law Merv.
