John Edward “Happy Jack” Martin finally caught his breath on April 8, 2021.
In his time, Jack Martin did all the stuff: served in the Royal Canadian Air Force for 20 years, did some traveling, got into a little trouble, got married, had children, got divorced.
But Jack preferred to keep things simple. He loved and, ultimately, refused to leave his “little cabin,” the house where he grew up and returned to share with, at various times, his children, a few select friends, and the love of his life, Blanche. If you heard cackling as you wandered down Rupert Ave, it was probably Jack and Blanche, getting up to no good. He turned frugality into a sport and got a thrill out of refitting and rehabilitating old junk, and in finding simple solutions to practical problems. He loved good conversation, YouTube, and Manitoba sports teams. And he would have loved to have seen a an NDP leader at 24 Sussex Drive in his lifetime, but alas...
He leaves behind a big hole in the hearts of his children: Tony Martin (Lara Brindley Martin); Tim Martin (Deena Neste-Martin); Kathryn Martin (Tony Cote); and Kelly Martin (Amanda Anhalt-Martin); his nine grandchildren; and his much loved and appreciated nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Jack's wishes, cremation will take place and he will join the remains of his parents, Robert and Annie; his brother, Roy; and his wife, Blanche, at Tamarisk Cemetery, Grandview District, MB. A graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please just quit smoking.
Keep smiling, Dad. Lubya.
