In Loving Memory of
John “Jack” Albert Rowan
1934 - 2012
John (Jack) Albert Rowan age 78 years of the Castleavery District of Manitoba, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at Russell District Hospital.
Jack was born September 7, 1934, a son of Arthur and Gladys (nee Curle) Rowan, on their farm in the Castleavery District. He would live on this farm until the time of his death.
Jack attended school first at Castleavery School and later at the MacNutt School. A farmer all his life, Jack farmed with his Dad for a number of years before buying his own land. He continued to farm cattle with his brothers Don and Ross until the time of his passing.
Jack never married or had children of his own but he was always a favourite uncle with his many nieces and nephews. Always generous, Uncle Jack never said no whether you needed to borrow his car or help around the farm.
Jack enjoyed sports, especially curling (as shown by the number of trophies on his shelves). He watched all sports on TV, especially hockey and baseball. As an avid hunter Jack held a deer hunting license from the age of sixteen years. Rarely did that license go unfilled. He hunted with his neighbours and taught many nephews the ropes until his illness prevented him from doing this any longer in 2012.
Jack was predeceased by his Parents, Arthur and Gladys Rowan, Brothers, Edwin and Don Rowan, Sister Ellen Deneka and Sister-in-law Susan Rowan.
Surviving to mourn Jack’s death and cherish fond memories are: his brother Ross (Suzanne) Rowan of Castleavery, his sisters; Betty (Richard) Edel, Sharon (Jim) Klassen all of Roblin, many nieces, nephews, and their spouses, brother-in-law, Matt Deneka and sister-in-law, Jeanette Rowan, both of Castleavery.
Family gathered on Friday, December 28, 2012 at 7:00 P.M. at the Chapel of Nairn-Chyz Funeral Home in Roblin to pay their respects.
Jack’s Funeral Service was held Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 2:00 PM also from the Chapel of Nairn-Chyz Funeral Home with Mrs. Grace Skomorowski officiating under the auspices of the United Church of Canada.
The Organist, Mrs. Betty Wenner led the congregation in singing the hymns, “Amazing Grace”, “Just As I Am” and “How Great Thou Art”. The Eulogy was delivered by Chrissy Rowan. Jamie Klassen read a poem entitled The Old Farmer’s Prayer, and Debbie Klimchuk read a poem entitled God Saw You Getting Tired. Casket Bearers were Dale Deneka, Keith Rowan, Terry Edel, Mark Rowan, Ryan Rowan and Jody Klassen. Following the funeral service a reception for family and friends was held from Roblin ’50 & Over Club.
Interment will be held at Castleavery Cemetery at a later date.
