Peacefully, on Thursday, August 15th, 2013, Irma Bertha (Grenon) Carriere passed away at the Roblin District Health Centre at the age of 90 years.
Irma was born in Dumas, Saskatchewan at home on April 10, 1923. She was the third child in a family of three boys and two girls. The family moved from Dumas to the outskirts of Radville, Saskatchewan in 1923, where she received her primary education at St. Olivers Separate School. In 1931, as the daughter of a teacher, the family moved to several places such as Neepawa, Inwood, Erickson and Somerset. Irma acquired her education, and graduated from Grade 12 from Notre Dame College of Wilcox in 1941.
In 1942, Irma was sent by the Department of Education (as a permit teacher) to Grande Prairie School in Boggy Creek, Manitoba. While teaching at Grande Prairie School, Irma met and married Ephrem Carriere and they were united in marriage on July 2nd, 1942. From that union 15 children were born. Ephrem and Irma, along with their children lived and farmed one mile north of San Clara, Manitoba until 1964 when they took possession of his father’s grocery store (Carriere's General Store), and the Post Office in San Clara. They worked there together until their retirement in 1983.
In 1993, Ephrem and Irma moved to Roblin, Manitoba where they continued to enjoy their retirement. After Ephrem's passing in 1999, Irma spent her time enjoying her many hobbies, some of which were sewing, flower gardening, reading, playing cards, travelling, and many more.
Irma was a wise and beautiful woman who never ever forgot the most important things….her family, her friends, her faith, how to laugh and make others laugh with her.
Irma is survived by her children; Denise (Willie) Sawchuck of Thompson Manitoba, Joe (Shirley] Carriere of Swan River, Manitoba, Margaret (Henry) Laliberte of Roblin, Diane Carriere of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Susan (Allen) Fraser of Red Deer, Alberta, Claudette (Bruce) Holm, of Arborg, Manitoba, Emile Carriereof Winnipeg, Patrick (Barbara) Carriere of Boggy Creek, Monique (Donald) McDonald of Leduc, Alberta, Donalda Potvin of Wetaskiwin Alberta, Adrienne Carriere of Winnipeg, and Janet (Brian) Nash of Winnipeg. Irma is also survived by her Sons-in-law; Gerard Vachon of Westlock, Alberta, Clive Omond iof Australia, 31 grandchildren, 51great-grandchildren and 12 great- great-grandchildren, along with many step-children, step-grandchildren, and her nieces and nephews. Also surviving is her Brother Oliver Grenon of Australia, Sisters and Brothers-in-law; Simone Cockerill, Yvette Carriere, Noella Porath, Fergie (Stella) Carriere, Florence Arcand, Charles (Gloria) Carriere, Guy (Sovie) Carriere and Theresa (Bert) Holtby.
Irma was pre-deceased by her husband Ephrem Carriere in 1999, her Daughters; Claire Vachon in 2007, Estelle Omond in 1999, and Rachel Carriere in 1996, her Grandson; Jeremy Wilkinson, her Son-in law; Marcel Potvin, and her Grandson-in-Law; Jesse Wong. She was also predeceased by her Mother; Ida Grenon, her Father; Joe Grenon, her Stepfather; Henry Grenon, her Brothers; Alfred and Albert Grenon and her Sister; Rev. Sr. Ida Marie Grenon, as well as numerous in laws, nieces, and nephews.
Prayer Service was held Monday, August 19, 2013, 7:00 PM at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Roblin with Father Paul Bisson officiating.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated also at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Churchin Roblin, on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at 10:00 AM with Fr. Paul Bisson officiating. Tiffany Cadieux delivered the Eulogy. Scripture Readings were read by Adrienne Carriere and Margaret Laliberte. Casket Bearers were; Gerard Vachon, Joe Carriere, Henry Laliberte, Bruce Holm, Allen Fraser, Donald McDonald. All family members are to consider themselves Honourary Bearers.
Following the Interment Service held at Roblin District Cemetery, a Memorial Dinner was hosted by the CWL at the Roblin District Community Centre.
We love you Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Great-Great-Grandma and most importantly, a dear friend to all.
