Irma Baumung Obituary

BAUMUNG,  Eleanora (Irma) Born July 14, 1927 - February 5, 2022 aged 94 years.

Irma Eleanora Baumung (nee Fatteicher) passed into God’s eternal, loving care on February 4, 2022 at the age of 94 years, with family by her side.  Irma was born on July 14, 1927 and was one of six children born to Hendrick and Eleanora Fatteicher.  She had three brothers, Richard, Harold and Elmer, and two sisters that passed away in infancy.  She was baptized at the Zorra Lutheran Church on July 31, 1927 and confirmed into the Lutheran faith on September 13, 1942.   She grew up on the family farm, attended Clova School and helped her family on the farm.

Irma loved to play ball and was pretty good at it.  One of the teams in the district they played against frequently was the Zorra School team on which Fred Baumung played on. Catching each other’s eye, they courted for 8 years, during which time Fred asked her several times to marry him. She finally said yes and they were married on November 15, 1951.

They started their life to together on a farm in the Zorra district, where they welcomed their daughters, Irma Diane on October 1, 1952 and Florence June on June 1, 1955.

The first couple of winters they spent with family in Vancouver. Then in the spring of 1957 they moved to an acreage at Togo.  This was close to Fred’s farm land and also close to a school in preparation for their children to attend. On January 27, 1960, Darwin came along to complete their family.

Irma was very community minded participating on several town committees’ including the Housing Committee and the Recreation Board. She was very active in her church, participating in choir, Ladies Aid, Lutheran Missionary League and played the organ for the Zorra Lutheran Church for over 50 years.

Irma and Fred took a great deal of pride in their yard - cutting grass, trimming trees and hedges, managing the weeds and planting a large garden.  It was always important to them that the yard was neat and tidy.  Irma also liked to sew and quilt. There were many wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, and graduation gowns made by her for gals in the area. In the winter she would make quilts and crochet. Every grandchild had at least one homemade quilt from grandma.

Irma and Fred lived on the family farm at Togo from 1957 to July 2, 2017 when Irma had a massive stroke. She had a tough road having to relearn some basic functions. With her strong determination and will power after 2 months of therapy, she progressed to being able to live with Fred in Yorkton at the Yorkton Crossing Retirement Community. This was a big change for both of them both learning to live in a small suite in the city versus their home on the farm. They were together there until Fred passed in January 2018. Irma then moved to Crocus Court in Roblin where she was very happy until her passing.

Irma was predeceased by her husband Fred in 2018, her parents Hendrick and Eleanora Fatteicher, parents-in-law Fred and Lena Baumung, brother Richard and his wife Helen, brother Harold and his wife Jean and brother Elmer and his wife Irene, sister-in-law Minnie Deederly and her husband Bill, sister-in-law Elsie Maguire and her husband Harvey, and brother-in-law Edward Baumung.
