Irene Mary (Limb) Howe
April 26, 1934 ~ September 16, 2015 (age 81) 81 Years OldIn Loving Memory of
Irene Mary Howe
1934 – 2015
Irene Howe, age 81 years of Roblin, Manitoba passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at the Crocus Court Personal Care Home in Roblin.
Irene was born on April 26, 1934 in Calder, Saskatchewan to her parents; Frank and Hilda (nee Helliwell) Limb. She had one sister, Marlene.
She married Harold Howe on November 25, 1954 and soon after they started their family. They had three boys, Franklin, Glenn and Bruce. They lived and farmed 10 miles south of Roblin and later, in 1983 moved to town.
Irene began her career as a home care worker, and then when the new hospital opened, she worked there and in the Personal Care Home from 1951 until her retirement on April 25, 1994. Although she had officially retired, she continued to volunteer for various positions in the Personal Care Home and also drove the Handivan.
Any visits to Grandma’s house for any of her grandchildren was sure to have them leave with full bellies and big smiles. These visits would often include many daytrips in the old van to one of her favourite picnic spots, including Lake of the Prairies, Asessippi and Gopherville.
After Harold’s passing in 1995, Irene was blessed to have a dear old friend, Eddie Bakken re-enter her life. Eddie loved to play his guitar and sing at many events in Roblin, something that Irene always thoroughly enjoyed watching.
Family was very important to her; it would be nothing for her to take a day trip into Winnipeg to deliver a care package of all her wonderful goodies to Bruce and Edna and of course she had to stop at every soft ice-cream shop she could find along the way.
Irene will be missed by her sons Franklin Howe of Springside, Saskatchewan, Glenn (Sharon) Howe of Neepawa, Manitoba and Bruce (Edna) Howe of Winnipeg, Manitoba and her only sister, Marlene Fowler of Brandon, Manitoba. Irene will also be missed by her 10 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, as well as extended family and a host of friends.
Irene is predeceased by her parents Frank and Hilda (nee Helliwell) Limb, her beloved husband Harold Howe and her brother-in-law Walter Fowler.
The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the Knox United Church in Roblin, with Mrs. Grace Skomorowski officiating. The organist, Mrs. Betty Wenner and the Knox United Church Choir led the congregation in singing the hymns “Beyond the Sunset”, “Nearer My God to Thee”, and “Amazing Grace”. The family requested that all whose lives were touched by Irene to consider themselves Honorary Casket Bearers.
Irene was carried to her final resting place in Roblin District Cemetery by the Casket Bearers; Michael Howe, Christopher Howe, Brent Fowler, Roger Arndt, Clint Clearwater, and Gordie Keast.
Following the Interment Service, a memorial reception was held in the auditorium of Knox United Church, hosted by the United Church Lunch Committee.
