In Loving Memory of

Helen Slobozian

1956 - 2014

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Slobozian, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and grandmother.

Helen passed away on Thursday, July 17 2014 at Grandview District Hospital in Grandview, Manitoba following a courageous battle with cancer.

Helen was born September 12, 1956 at Grandview, a daughter of Micheal and Mary (nee Komishin)  Zamonsky.

Helen will forever be in the hearts of her Husband Joe Slobozian of Petlura, Manitoba, her Mother Mary Zamonsky of Gilbert Plains, Manitoba, her Children: Chris Slobozian of Petlura, Corey (Amy) Slobozian of Grandview and Jonie (Rob) Johnson of Riverton, Manitoba, her Grandchildren: Dallas and Eric Slobozian, Owen, Ethan and Elise Slobozian, Leif and Leela Johnson.

Helen is also survived by two brothers Fred (Rosaline) Zamonsky of Yorkton, Saskatchewan and Andy (Marlene) Zamonsky of Grandview and many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Helen was predeceased by her father Micheal Zamonsky in 1984.

Helen met Joe at a Petlura dance and two years later they married, on March 3 1973. They celebrated forty-one years of married life together. They were blessed with three children. Farming together– seeding, harvesting, and raising cattle was teamwork. Wherever Joe was, Helen was right behind. They were always together, either in the garden, in town shopping, or visiting family and friends.  She will be sadly missed.

Helen and Joe opened their home to many foster children, family and friends.  She was a great cook and nobody ever left her home hungry.

Helen enjoyed gardening, flowers, fishing with family and playing cards with friends.

Helen will be remembered for her kindness, her welcoming personality and an inner strength that helped her overcome many adversities in life, while continuing to enjoy every moment.

Prayer Vigil Service was held on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at 7:00 PM from the Chapel of Nairn-Chyz Funeral Home in  Roblin, Manitoba.

Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at 10:00 AM from Holy Redeemer Ukrainian Catholic Church in Roblin with Rev. Fr, Yaroslav Strukhlyak officiating, assisted by the Cantor Mr. Peter Wyss. Colleen Rydz delivered the Eulogy. Casket Bearers were Steve Belyk, Frank Germain, Jim Rydz, Andy Shewchuk, Doug Zamonsky, and Steve Zamonsky. All those who had shared in Helen’s love were asked to consider themselves Honourary Casket Bearers. The Cross Bearer was Debbie Liske and Sacristan was Mr. Peter Kowalyk.

Following the Requiem Divine Liturgy, a Memorial Dinner was served by the Ukrainian Catholic Church Ladies in the lower hall of the church.

The Interment Service followed at Holy Ascension Ukrainian Catholic Parish Cemetery in Petlura, Manitoba.

A Special Angel

There's a special angel in Heaven

That is a part of me.

It is not where I wanted her,

But where God wanted her to be.

She was here just a moment,

Like a night time shooting star.

And though she is in Heaven

She isn't very far.

She touched the hearts of many,

Like only an angel can do.

I would've held her every minute,

If the end I only knew.

So I send this special message

To Heaven up above.

Please take care of my angel,

And send her all my love.
