Hazel Caroline Chyz (Sewell) passed away peacefully at the Grandview Hospital at the age of 74 in the early hours of October 13th, 2023 with her family by her side.
Hazel was the youngest daughter of Merton and Ruth Sewell (Manns) born March 6, 1949 in Grandview, MB. She attended Grandview School and the Manitoba Institute of Technology for her LPN Diploma.
Hazel and Dwayne had their first date on her 16th birthday. She married the love of her life on October 4, 1969. Their children Nicole and Greg were born in Grandview in 1971 and 1974.
Hazel and Dwayne moved to many communities throughout the years bringing them on adventures to Leaf Rapids, MB; Pine Point, NWT; Anchorage, AK; Tucson, AZ; St. John’s, NL; Happy Valley – Goose Bay, NL; Oakville, ON and finally back full circle to Grandview.
Hazel was active in many organizations over the years but especially loved to spend her time at the different hockey arenas cheering on her grandsons Andrew and Mark; listening to her favorite music with Dwayne or hearing the loons (her favorite bird) on the lake.
Hazel was kind, supportive and had the best sense of humor. She was a true friend for life. She was the best mother and grandmother you could ever ask for. She and Dwayne were true partners and had a special love that will live on forever.

We are very thankful for the compassionate care that she received at the Grandview Hospital. A special thank you to Dr. Elliott and all of the exceptional nurses and staff. Small town hospitals matter.
There is no formal service at this time.
I’ll love you forever,
I’ll like you for always,
As long as I’m living,
My Mommy you’ll be...
