Gordon Francis McKay

1935 - 2013

Gordon Francis McKay age 78 years, of Roblin, Manitoba, passed away peacefully at home on the night of Monday, August 26, 2013 with family members at his side.

Born Gordon Francis McKay, May 6, 1935, he was the eldest of eight children of Arthur and Clara (nee Lefort) McKay of Russell and Roblin, Manitoba.

Gordon resided in the Roblin District and worked for farmers in his younger years. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces and at this time met his soon to be wife Lois Elaine Ludwig of Roblin. They were married in Lynn Lake, Manitoba in 1962. Gordon worked with cement in the construction industry, did mining at Key Lake and was the director of the Recreation Centre at Chetwynd, B.C. 

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and loved his garden. He was steeped in Métis culture and loved old time music. Gordon was loved by all who knew him and will be sadly missed by all his family and friends. Grandpa will also be missed by grandchildren and great-grand-children.

Gordon and Lois were blessed with four children and in 1980 they were blessed once again with a fifth child.

Gordon is mourned by his first daughter; Frances Elaine Delorme of Roblin, and her children Peter James Francis McKay – deceased, Steven Russell McKay – deceased, Corey Roy McKay of North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Micheal Rodney Delorme and Troy Ryan Delorme both of North Battleford, Fawn Irene Delorme of Roblin, Vernon Richard Trottier of Lloydminster, Alberta, Pius Gordon Delorme – deceased, and Theresa Anne Margaret Delorme of Roblin.  Lowen Drew McKay was his second child, and his children; Pearlita Scott, and Jamie Garfield Scott both of Fort St. John, BC, Daniel Ray McKay, Michela Ray McKay, Brady Drew McKay, and Racheal Sudiak all of Roblin. his third child (and second daughter) Angela Jean Micha (Travis) of Chetwynd, B.C, and their children; Colin, and Kyle Micha of Prince George and Chetwynd, B.C, and Christina Micha of Fort St. John, B.C, his fourth child (and second son) Douglas Gordon McKay, and his third daughter (and youngest child) Candace Leah Schmitt (Colin) and their three children Patine, Dorian and Davis. 

Gordon is also survived by brothers and sisters; Clifford James McKay (Margarette) of Quesnell, B.C, and son Bradley (Gwen). Gerald McKay, deceased, Marlene Yvonne Nichols (Pat) both deceased and son Brian (Cindy). Debbie McKay (Bill) and daughter Cherie, Darcy McKay (Theresa) of Slave Lake, Alberta, and children Joshua and Amanda, Arthur William McKay (Frances) of Roblin, and son Calvin, Heather Lynn Moreau (Peter) of Roblin, and their children Kevin (Krista Munn), daughter Kelli Munn (Wes), daughter Crystal Munn, daughter Kaela Moreau (Dillon).

Family Visitation was held on Friday, August 30, 2013 at 7:00 PM from the Chapel of Nairn-Chyz Funeral Home in Roblin. In honour of Gordon’s life, family gathered at the McKay residence on the evening of Saturday, August 31, 2013.
