George McIvor Obituary

MCIVOR, GEORGE DUNCAN, February 24, 1954 - September 3, 2018 was born in Toronto, Ontario to Eric McIvor (deceased 2010) and Shirley Kimmerly McIvor (deceased 1986).  He was one of three boys, Mike the eldest and Andy (Carla) the youngest.  They were busy boys who spent their summers at their cottage on the Manitoulin Island (The McIvor Homestead).

His family moved to Brampton, Ontario where he completed all his schooling and along the way met the love of his life Sandy.  After high school he attended York University for two years.  For two summers he hitch-hiked and hopped freight cars travelling across Canada.  When Sandy graduated they moved west to Saskatoon where he completed his degrees at the University of Saskatchewan.

George and Sandy had two children, Erin and Megan.  They were a very close family that enjoyed their cabin life, travels, adventures, and spending time together.  This family closeness continued as their family grew.

George began teaching in 1979 and taught for 31 years, all at Esterhazy High School.  There he made many lifelong friends with staff and students.  His subject areas were English, History, and Canadian Studies.  He enjoyed every day, teaching and coaching his students and sharing his love of Canada.

George was active in many areas.  He enjoyed sports, on and off land, outdoor activities, hiking and biking, acting and socializing.  He was always open to new experiences and making new acquaintances.  He did well at these but nothing compared to all he did as a caring, proud, and loving son, brother, husband, father, father-in-law, and grandpa.  Family was the most important thing to him.

George will be missed by all whose life he entered.  We thank you for being part of it.  - Sandy, - Erin, Josh, Ally, and Presleigh Herperger, - Megan, Curtis, and Lane Radford
