Baumung, George Norman Born November 19, 1929 ~ March 18, 2026. Aged 96 years.
With great sadness, the family of George Baumung announces his passing on March 18, 2026, aged 96 years, in the Russell Health Centre.
George Norman Baumung was born to Frederick and Karolina "Lena" Baumung (nee Miller) on November 19, 1929, on the family farm homestead in the R.M. of Calder, Saskatchewan. He attended the Zorra School where he went until grade 10.
George grew up and worked on the family farm. When he was 18 and 19 years old, he taught school. He had 21 students from Grades 1 - 8.
He continued to farm and raise cattle with his brother Art. After retiring from farming, he continued to live on the home quarter, until he moved into Roblin with his brother Art and sister Ellen in 2015-16.
George was confirmed in Zorra Church and baptized in the Clova Church. He sang in the choir in Zorra and MacNutt.
The farm was a mixed operation; Art was the cattle guy; George preferred the grain operation. They grew rye, wheat, barley, oats (mostly feed oats) and later canola.
When he wasn’t working, some of his favourite activities were curling, baseball and playing cards.
George was predeceased by his parents, Frederick and Karolina "Lena" Baumung; brother, Ed; sister Minnie and her husband Bill Deederly; sister Elsie and her husband Harvey Maguire, brother Fred and his wife Irma; sister, Ellen Bauming; brother Art; two brothers in infancy; nephew Dale Maguire and nephew Raymond Deederly.
George leaves to mourn his passing his nephew, Bill Deederly; niece, Sharon Metz (Deederly); nephew, Gary Deederly; niece, Diane Baumung; niece, June Richter (Baumung); nephew, Darwin Baumung; nephew, Doug Maguire; nephew, Grant Maguire; niece, Karen Maguire; as well as many grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins and friends.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Russell and Roblin Health Centres. Also, special thanks to Terry, Roger, Ted, Ramona and the many other friends and neighbours who supported and assisted George at his home during the last few years.
The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, March 26, 2026 at the Chapel of NairnChyz-Wolkowski Funeral Service in Roblin, Manitoba with Marg West officiating. Interment followed at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. In lieu of flowers, those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of George to the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba and/or the Manitoba Lung Association.
