In Loving Memory of

Freda Lorraine Andrews

1954 - 2015

Freda Lorraine (Mancheese) Andrews passed while with her husband at the Crocus Court Personal Care Home in Roblin, Manitoba on Friday, May 1, 2015 at age 61.

Freda was born on April 21, 1954 in Grandview, Manitoba and grew up in the Valley River First Nation with her siblings. Her mother passed away when Freda was only 12 and she was raised by her grandparents.  She attended school in Grandview.

She met her future husband Robert Andrews in Roblin, in 1971. They were married December 1972 in Roblin and Freda moved to Roblin where they raised their daughter Beverly who was born in 1977.  She had another daughter named Jesse in 1983, but she passed away shortly after birth.

Freda and Robert raised and raced sled dogs and she was the woman’s world champion in 1993 in Leaf Rapids.  She and Robert traveled across Canada and the Northern United States racing until 1998.

In 1998, Freda was diagnosed with cancer in the brain and spent time in Regina for treatment.

Freda was a friendly, kind woman who made friends in every community she visited.  Her warmth was felt by all who knew her. Freda was always willing to lend a helping hand or comfort in a time of need.  She was very close to her daughter and they spent a lot of time together, Freda visited Beverly in Regina often.

When she wasn’t working with the dogs, Freda enjoyed bingo with her mother-in-law Edith or other friends.  Freda like walking and walked many miles around Roblin, often taking friends and family with her.   She loved to dance and was always the life of the party.

Freda was predeceased by her infant daughter Jesse Andrews; her mother Jesse Mancheese; grandmother Bella Mancheese; grandfather William Mancheese, her brothers Wayne Mancheese and Dean Mancheese; and her sisters Leona Mancheese and Wanda Mancheese.

Freda is survived by her husband, Robert Andrews, daughter, Beverly Andrews (Jason Waters); her brothers Gerald Mancheese; Gordan (Stephanie) Mancheese; her sisters Shirley Mancheese; and Edith Mancheese; aunt Florence Bouvier; niece Heaven Amoyotte.  She will also be missed by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.

Freda’s Funeral Service was held on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Chapel of Nairn-Chyz Funeral Home in Roblin with Pastor Warren Ironstand officiating.  The organist, Melanie Ironstand played processional music and led the congregation in singing the hymn “Rock of Ages”.  The congregation listened to music that was special to Freda; the songs “Come See About Me” and “One Headlight”.  Freda’s longtime friend, Debbie Turner shared some stories about her.

Following the Funeral Service, a Memorial Reception for family and friends was held at Nairn-Chyz Funeral Home.

Freda was laid to rest by her family in a private service that was held in Roblin District Cemetery.

The little bird got her wings, and now she flies free.
