In Loving Memory of

Erwin Harold Bauming

1925 - 2013

A great loss to his family and community, Erwin Harold Baumung ended his battle with cancer at the Roblin & District Health Centre. He peacefully went to join his Lord on Tuesday, July, 30th 2013, at the age of  87 years.

Erwin Harold Baumung, son of Jacob and Elizabeth (Schmidt) Baumung, was born September 18, 1925 at the family farm at Calder, Saskatchewan. He was baptized October 11, 1925 at his parents’ home in Calder.  Erwin was confirmed September 8, 1940 at the Grace Lutheran Church, Zorra, Saskatchewan, and was a faithful lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church where he served as Secretary, Vice-President and President for over forty years.

He attended Verboska country school for ten years, completing his education by correspondence.

Erwin grew up as a farm boy and in 1951, he settled in the Cromarty area where he established himself as a farmer. He married Theresa Gottlieb in 1956 and together they raised their two children, Valerie and Brent on the farm.  Never too busy to lend a helping hand to neighbours and friends, he became actively involved in the community. He was President, Secretary and Treasurer of Cromarty Community Club and acted as caretaker of the Cromarty Hall for many years.

As a committed farmer, Erwin was a lifelong member of The National Farmers Union. He was Depot Committee member and Secretary of Co-op Implements until its demise. Erwin also served as New Democratic Party Treasurer for a number of years.

With his co-operative philosophy, Erwin served as Board Member and Secretary of Roblin Consumers and Parkway Co-op for thirty years. In recognition for his contribution he received the Co-operator of the Year Award in 2002. Erwin also served as Board Member and Secretary of Roblin Credit Union for twenty seven years.

Erwin strongly believed in the right to life and served as Secretary and Treasurer of the Roblin Right To Life Branch for twenty three years.

He was a Board Member and Chairman of the Finance Committee for Roblin Health District for eleven years. Erwin worked tirelessly towards acquiring a new health centre for Roblin. One of his proudest moments was participating with fellow board members and dignitaries at the opening of the new Roblin & District Health Centre on July 9, 1976.

Erwin always felt that these opportunities to serve enriched his life and were great learning experiences.

After retiring, Erwin, being a farmer at heart, took great pleasure in working alongside his son Brent on the family farm where he helped in the field and the yard.  Erwin also enjoyed his passion to read.  He was very knowledgeable on factual information and loved to share it with others.

The light of his life were his grandchildren, Trez and Ryan. Erwin always enjoyed spending time with Trez and her pets and discussing education and sports with Ryan. He was very proud of Trez pursuing a career in nursing and of Ryan’s passion for linguistics and football.

Erwin’s saddest moment in life was losing their daughter Valerie Foster to cancer at forty one years of age in 2000.

Erwin was predeceased by his daughter Valerie Foster; mother & father; Jacob and Elizabeth Baumung, sister Caroline Miller; brothers Norman & Reinhold Baumung; brothers-in-law Carl and Alfred Gottlieb, and sister-in-law Eunice Baumung.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Theresa Baumung; son Brent (Connie) Baumung; granddaughter Trez Baumung, all of Roblin; son-in-law Gerald Foster; grandson Ryan Foster both of Edmonton, Alberta; sister Aurelia (Lorne) Schaan of Langenburg, Saskatchewan; brothers-in-law Jack (Marlene) Miller of Calder, Mike Gottlieb of Vernon, BC; James (Agnes) Gottlieb of North York, Ontario; and David Gottlieb of Calgary, Alberta; sisters-in-law Theresa Baumung of Yorkton, Saskatchewan; Marie (Ed) Mohr of Roblin, and Margaret Gottlieb of Acton, MASS, USA; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Family called to pay their respects on Friday, August 2, 2013 at the Chapel of Nairn-Chyz Funeral Home in Roblin.

Erwin’s Funeral Service was held Saturday August 3, 2013 at 1:00 PM from Grace Lutheran Church in Zorra, Saskatchewan, with Pastor Robert Hasselstrom officiating.
