Emma Aurelia St. Germain, age 99 years, of Roblin, Manitoba, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2013 at Crocus Court Personal Care Home in Roblin.
Born Emma Aurelia Langan on May 26, 1914 at St. John, North Dakota USA, a daughter of Patrick and Mary Jane (nee Jeanotte) Langan.
Emma immigrated to Canada with her family in 1919. They travelled by horse and wagon and homesteaded in Boggy Creek, Manitoba. She received her education at Happy Lake School. Emma married Arthur St. Germain in 1941. They lived on the St. Germain homestead in the Happy Lake District where they farmed and raised their ten children. In later years, Arthur and Emma lived in San Clara and Silverwood District, finally retiring to Roblin. Arthur passed away in 1993 and Emma continued to live in their home in Roblin until moving to Crocus Court in 2009.
Emma was devoted to family, friends and the Catholic Church at an early age. She enjoyed gardening and her outdoor fires. She was well known for her great cooking, loved family visits and enjoyed the company of many friends who would stop by. Her faith continued through her entire life.
Surviving to mourn Emma's death and cherish fond memories are: three sons; Wayne St. Germain of Sardis, B.C., Lloyd (Francis) St. Germain of Roblin, and Garry (Doreen) St. Germain of Prince George, B.C., five daughters; Joyce (Bob) Goetz of Calgary, Alberta, Pat (Don) Irvine of Creston, B.C., Judy (William) Burwash of Kamsack, Saskatchewan, Myrna St. Germain of Edmonton, Alberta, Debbie St. Germain (Bob Mickelson) of Roblin. Emma is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother; Clifford Langan of Rivers, Manitoba, one sister; Della (Paul) Brazeau of Roblin, one sister-in-law; Mary Langan of Boggy Creek, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Emma was predeceased by daughters Grace Campbell in 1986, Stella St. Germain in 1984 and grandson Kelvin Goetz in 2008.
Prayer Vigil Services were held at the Chapel of Nairn-Chyz Funeral Home in Roblin on Friday, September 13, 2013 at 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Roblin, with Rev. Fr. James Ahaneku officiating. Margaret Carriere read the Scripture Lesson and Troy Burwash delivered the Eulogy. Ruth Angus led Sacred Heart Choir in singing the hymns “Amazing Grace”, ‘How great Thou Art” and “Be Not Afraid”. Casket Bearers were Emma's Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren; Warren St. Germain, Rachel Gregory, Shelley Irvine, Ayla Irvine, Glenn Burwash and Troy Burwash.
Following the Interment Service at Roblin Catholic Cemetery, a Memorial Dinner for family and friends was held at the Roblin '50 and Over Club.
