Emile Carriere Obituary

Carriere, Emile Arthur Born October 15, 1952 - December 25, 2023 Aged 71 years

Peacefully on Monday, December 25, 2023, at 8:30 pm, Emile Arthur Carriere passed away with his family by his side.

He leaves to mourn his sisters Denise (Willie) Sawchuk, Margaret (Henry) Laliberte, Diane Carriere, Claudette (Bruce) Holm, brother Patrick (Barb) Carriere, sisters Monique (Don) MacDonald, Donalda (Jim) Carriere-Potvin, Adrienne Carriere, Janet Carriere, as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Also lovingly remembered by his sister-in-law Shirley Carriere (Joe) , Brothers-in-Law Gerard Vachon (Claire) , Al Fraser (Susie) and Clive Omond (Estelle). Emile was predeceased by his parents Ephrem and Irma Carriere, brother Joseph Carriere, sisters Claire Vachon, Susie Fraser, Estelle Omond, Rachel Carriere and brother-in law Marcel Potvin.

Emile was one of 15 siblings born to Ephrem and Irma in Roblin, Manitoba. He attended Walker School in San Clara, Manitoba and then went on to Roblin High School for a few years. He relocated to Winnipeg, Manitoba at an early age where he lived with family members until he became established in the city. He held a variety of positions in the retail/labour sector and worked at Pepsi-Cola for a couple of years unloading shipments and stocking the warehouse. He then ventured to Edmonton, Alberta where he was welcomed by family there and worked at Safeway for a period of time. He was a hard worker and everyone at Safeway loved him! One of the things Emile loved the most was constantly trying to "fix" something electrical and would often take things apart just so he could put them back together!

He was passionate about music and could often be found with his "boom box" listening to classic country or old-time fiddle music. He had many friends he would come to call family and spent many years with them in laughter as well as through some hard times. He held them in a very special place in his heart and was cared for by many. Most importantly to him, he idolized his Mom and although he didn't get to spend as much time with her as he would have liked to, he always talked about her in high regard throughout his life. His earlier dream was to become an electrician so he could make a pair of electric scissors for Mom as she was always making clothes for the kids and would get blisters on her hands.  This is one example of the kindness and love he held in his heart, and he will be happy to now be reunited with her.

In the last few years of his life, Emile was cared for by the kind and loving staff in the CBI Health Centre. He made many friends in the home and brought as much love and laughter to their lives as they did to his. He came to be known as the "King of Bling" as he loved to dress up for each special occasion and brought much joy to all who had the privilege of seeing him in his bright and fun attire. The family will be forever grateful for the beautiful and kind staff of CBI Health Centre who treated him like family and cared for him in the last years of his life.

Emile will be fondly remembered for his kind heart, his love of adventure, and the resiliency in which he lived his life. He touched the hearts of many people and has left a lasting memory for all who knew and loved him.

The family is grateful to the wonderful kindness and support provided by the Doctors and Staff at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg.
