In Loving Memory of

Elizabeth Louise Zimmer

1927 - 2016

It is with sadness that we announce mom’s passing on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at the Crocus Court Personal Care Home in Roblin, Manitoba.  She was 89 years old.

Elizabeth, oldest child of parents Jacob and Anna (nee Fritschel) Wagner was given life on April 8, 1927 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

She was baptized as an infant and confirmed into the Lutheran faith in St. John’s Lutheran Church at Shevlin, Manitoba.

Elizabeth met and married her husband and life companion, Robert Zimmer on April 22, 1945.  They farmed in the Blue Wing area for two years, and then moved to Endcliff, where they resided until 1962.  They later moved to their farm in Tummel, Manitoba.  In 1975, Elizabeth and Robert retired from the farm and moved to Roblin.

Elizabeth took home care training and started a new career.  Mom always wanted to be a nurse, but because of financial hardships was unable to realize her dream.  Home care filled that void, as she was a very sociable, caring and hardworking lady.  She worked hard all her life, but enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, sewing, berry picking and gardening.  She especially loved her flowers like roses and dahlias.

Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband Robert; brother John Wagner; sister-in-law Wilma Wagner; Alvina and Hewitt Quick, Alex Mohr, Marguerite Zimmer, Lawrence and Gladys Zimmer and granddaughter Kimberley Case.

Elizabeth is survived by her sons, Wilfred (Shirley) Zimmer and Gerald (Lynn) Zimmer; her daughters, Linda (Bruce) Case, Donna Henderson and Shelley Polding, her 19 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren.  She will also be missed by her sisters, Hertha (Adolph) Edel, Elsie (Edward) Zimmer, Edna (Walter) Kroll, Harold (Leona) Wagner and June Wagner.

A Prayer Service was held on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Nairn-Chyz Funeral Home in Roblin with Pastor Barry Wood officiating.

The Funeral Service was held on Friday, July 29, 2016 at 2:00 PM at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Roblin with Pastor Barry Wood officiating.  The organist, Debbie Funk led the congregational hymns “Beautiful Savior”, “Precious Lord Take My Hand” and “Be Still My Soul”.  St. Matthew’s Lutheran Quartet performed “Abide With Me”.

Following the service, a reception for family and friends was held in the lower auditorium of St. Matthew’s Church, hosted by the Lutheran Ladies.

Elizabeth was carried to her final resting place next to her beloved husband Robert in Shevlin District Cemetery by her grandsons- Tim Case, Rick Zimmer, Rob Case, Steven Zimmer, John Zimmer and Greg Henderson.

Mom is finally at rest in her Lord.  We shall miss you.  Rest in peace Mom; we love you.

God Saw You Getting Tired

God saw you getting tired,

When a cure was not to be.

So He wrapped his arms around you,

And whispered, “come to me”.

You didn’t deserve what you went through,

So He gave you rest.

God’s garden must be beautiful,

He only takes the best.

And when we saw you sleeping,

So peaceful and free from pain

I could not wish you back

To suffer that again.
