Elisabeth Furtney Obituary

Furtney, Elisabeth Justina (nee Baumung), November 14, 1924 - April 29, 2018, beloved wife to Donald Furtney of Zorra, SK., passed away at the age of 93 years.

Beth was born on the family farm to Phillip and Justina (Mundt) Baumung.  She was baptized, confirmed, and married in the Grace Lutheran Church at Zorra.  In later years, she joined the Roblin United Church.

Beth was the younger sister to Carolina (Lena) (Conrad Mann), Katherine, Marie (Lowell Hansen), George (Wilma) Baumung, and an older sister to Madeline (Eddie Bakken), and Phillip (Winnie) Baumung.

After leaving home on the farm, Beth lived in Roblin, attended Normal School at Luther College in Regina, and taught school in Rhein, Zorra, Roblin, Gartmore, and Golden Jubilee.  She briefly lived in Vancouver B.C., and at some point worked at the Roblin Trading Store.

Don and Beth were married on November 17th, 1950, and lived and farmed in the Zorra area.  For several years Beth continued to teach.  They moved to Roblin in 2005.  Don passed on Oct 22, 2011.  In March of 2017, due to declining health but with a sharp mind, Beth moved to the Crocus Court Personal Care Home in Roblin, MB.

Don and Beth were blessed with children, grand children and great grand children.  Vernon (Gloria) of Ontario, and then Lynn (Kathy) of MacNutt, Lynn’s daughter Tamara and her son Hunter, followed by Joanne (Ed) Renauld of Regina, their children Amber (Tom) Musselman, their daughters Addison and Blaine, Ed (Lacy) Renauld.  Garry (Catherine) Stehr of Red Deer Alberta was embraced by Don and Beth as if their third son and his daughter Desiree (Mark) and their children Kaiden and Saxton.  As small children, Amber, Edward, and Desiree loved to spend time on the farm with Grandma and Grandpa.

In her youth, Beth’s first love was fastball. (Playing in surrounding communities and for the Regina Diamond Gems fastball team. She was also invited to play for the All-American Girls Softball League during the war.) Beth loved her teaching career, and also had a love for curling, gardening, bingo, going for Sunday drives, and visiting with friends and neighbours.  She loved to talk!

Beth is survived by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brother Phillip, and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her parents, husband, sisters and her brother George.

A private family graveside service will be held to celebrate the life of Elisabeth Furtney, at a later date.  Those who desire, may make a token of remembrance donation to the Gartmore Zorra Cemetery Fund, c/o Charles Schrader, Roblin, MB., R0L 1P0.  To leave a note of condolence for the family, please visit Nairn-chyzfuneralhome.com
