In Loving Memory of

Edwin Toews Wiebe

1932 - 2013

My loving husband, our Dad, Grandpa, and Great-Grandpa, Edwin T. Wiebe, was born to Peter and Agnes (Toews) Wiebe on April 28, 1932.  After a valiant battle for several years with Myelofibrosis, the angels came at sunrise on May 31, 2013, and took him Home. Dad reached the age of 81 years.

Dad grew up in Greenland, Manitoba, enjoying his siblings and life on the farm.  He received his eight years of schooling at the Greenland School.  He accepted the Lord as his personal Saviour and friend when he was 11, and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite, on January 23, 1944 by Min. John M. Penner. Dad endeavored to remain faithful to this vow until the end.  In his youth, Dad spent time working in the bush, building roads, and doing carpentry.  He enjoyed sharing these stories with us, and we in turn enjoyed listening.

Dad married our mother, Violet Friesen, on June 26, 1955.  They enjoyed nearly 58 happy years together.  We nine children knew that Dad and Mom stood together, loving us and each other.  Dad provided well for his family by farming, some carpentry, and then as a tax accountant.  Dad loved working together with his family.

Dad and Mom began their married life in Whitemouth, Manitoba.  In 1962 they moved to his father's farm in Greenland, Manitoba.  Then in 1966, they once again packed up and moved to a farm in the new congregation of Roblin, Manitoba.  Dad started Ed Wiebe Accounting and Income Tax in 1974. Upon retiring from farming in 1991, they moved into the town of Roblin. On January 1, 1997 Dad sold the accounting tax business to his son Roy. Roblin was where they resided until Dad’s final move to Heaven.  Dad and Mom enjoyed the last five years in the Roblin Apartments making more close friends.

Dad had his struggles, but he taught us that serving God, family, and others were the most important things in life.  He taught us by example how to say "sorry" and that when you fail, "get up and try again". Dad loved teaching Bible School on the Native reservations and the children loved him!  Two years were spent at a "Boy's Unit" in Montreal, Quebec, where he made more friends and adopted the boys as his own.

Family devotions were important to Dad and we often had them morning and evening.  Inviting a family over for an evening of fellowship or sharing a meal was very special to him.  After his retirement, inviting others to "go out for a meal" or "for coffee" was a big part of his life and he touched many lives, reaching far beyond his family with his generosity and interest in others.  Dad loved travelling!  He always wanted to drive when they went to visit the children so he could observe God's creation and stop at nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to reconnect.

Those left behind with lots of memories are his beloved wife Violet Wiebe of Roblin, five sons and four daughters: Roy and Donna of Roblin,  Galen and Valerie of Stettler, Alberta, Karen and Earl Reimer of Carrot River, Saskatchewan, Ralph and Wanda of Stettler, Bruce and Laurie of Roblin, Calvin and Roxine of Roblin, Connie and Arlo Schneider of Stapleton, Georgia, Ruth and Clayton Wiebe of Swanson, Saskatchewan, and Lois Wiebe of Bow Island, Alberta, along with 34 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; four brothers and four sisters: Ted and Dora Wiebe, Nellie Wohlgemuth, Albert and Alma Wiebe, brother-in-law Hank Wieler, Irma and Leonard Dueck, Viola and Jake Wohlgemuth, Cornie and Velma Wiebe,  Lottie and Eugene Quasso, Peter and Norma Wiebe; and also four brothers in-law and four sisters in-law: Lillie Penner, Margaret Friesen,  Alphae and Alba Friesen, Lawrence and Wilma Friesen, Martha Friesen, Ervin and Norma Friesen, Denton and Diana Friesen,  Doris and Denver Wiebe.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his parents-in-law, one brother, one sister, three brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law and one granddaughter.

Pre Service was held at the Church of God in Christ in Roblin, on Sunday, June 2, 2013 at 7:00 PM.

Funeral Service was also held at the Church of God in Christ in Roblin, on Monday, June 3, 2013, at 11:00 AM with the local ministers, Randy Bartel, Stuart Isaac and Michael Isaac in charge.  Casket Bearers were Verlin Wiebe, Alex Wiebe, Jeff Reimer, Darren Wiebe, Dallas Wiebe and Dion Wiebe.  Interment followed in the Churchyard Cemetery.
