Olson, Edwin, August 27, 1928 - May 3, 2018, aged 89 years of Roblin, MB passed away peacefully with family by his side Thursday, May 3rd 2018 at the Roblin & District Health Centre.
Edwin was born on August 27th, 1928 on the family farm near Bield, MB to Odin and Lucy (McDougall) Olson. Edwin received his education at the Bield consolidated school. After leaving school, Edwin farmed along side his dad.
Edwin met and married the love of his life, Shirley Williamson in 1953. In 1957 they welcomed a son, Gary Edwin and in 1962 they welcomed a daughter, Karen Lynn, to complete their family.
Edwin’s parents retired in 1960 and moved to Roblin. It was at this time when Edwin and Shirley took over the family farm. Edwin had a mixed farm. The mixed farm produced wheat, oats, barley, milk cows, pigs, horses, and poultry. Edwin also enjoyed the get-together’s with friends and neighbours to play aggravation, crib, as well as whist. One of his most enjoyable past times on the farm was watching his pair of bantams multiply into many pairs.
Edwin and Shirley decided to gradually leave the farm life behind. In 1995, they purchased a house in Roblin and officially retired. Following their retirement they were able to find the time to do a bit of travelling. Edwin enjoyed planting and tending to their vegetable garden, and he also enjoyed tinkering in his workshop.
Left to cherish many fond memories are his children, Gary (Angela) Olson and Karen (Carl) Mohr; grandson Tyler Olson; granddaughter Kimberly Mohr (Stephen Kuzuchar); great granddaughter Ryleigh Kuzuchar; and twin great grandsons Luke and Callen Kuzuchar; sister in law Ramona Williamson; as well as extended family and friends.
Edwin was predeceased by Shirley, his loving wife of 63 years; his parents, Odin and Lucy (McDougall) Olson; brother Wilfred; sister in law Monica; sister Alma; brother in law Cecil (Hughes); infant sister Mildred and infant twin sister Edna; grandson Logan Mohr; and brother in law Clifford Williamson.
Funeral Service was held Tuesday, May 8, 2018 from the Knox United Church in Roblin, Manitoba with Reverend Jenny Sprong officiating. The organist, Allison Craig and the Knox United Church Choir led the congregational hymns. Edwin was carried to his final resting place in the Bield District Cemetery by Pallbearers Stephen Kuzuchar, Tyler Olson, Eric Olson, Martin Olson, Bob Hughes and Brent Williamson.
